PWSC Intake/Filter Placement?

I have been stumbling my way through the many threads regarding FI and the choices available for the Zetec Focus. For the most part it seems the Powerworks would be a good choice. My question/comment is that of all the SC to choose from why the Powerworks intake/filter sits so high up in the engine bay? Wont that have a negative effect and wouldn't it be better to have it positioned lower or somehow drawing air from outside the engine bay?

I wonder, if I went with the PWSC would it be Ok to adapt my Pipercross intake to it? The pipercross draws in cooler air from tubing that runs down behind the front grill. Has anyone else altered adapted an intake to their PWSC other than what it comes with?

the high filter is because of hydro lock. you can always make better power with colder air. i have heard some people say that the roots type blowers dont like to suck air through a long intake but i never had a problem with it on the jrsc, but i did have a 3" intake.

Yeah, I kind of guessed it might have something to do with the fear of hydrolock but SC like procharger don't place the intake/filter up so high. I have heard that before about SC not like to suck air through a tube...does it decrease the efficiency/performance of the SC or do any damage because of reduced air (if there is any). My Pipercross intake tubing is 3" so I would believe it moves quite a bit of air.
