N2O and timing

ok so to take care of the timing issue when using nitrous but also still be able to have my aftermarket NA tune, i was thinking about getting a J&S safeguard. i want to make sure that i will be safe using only the J&S with the aftermarket tune when using up to a 75 shot of nitrous. i've talked to a couple people and they gave me the impression that i really didn't need anything else but i wanted to make sure before i spent hundreds of dollars on it.

so tom? mike? bill? or anyone else who knows about nitrous could you tell me what you think about this please? could i ONLY have the J&S safeguard to retard the timing automatically when the nitrous is being used while always having my aftermarket NA tune?

Yes that should work fine another safety thing would be high octane 100+

I"ll agree with Tom, short of having a seperate tune for the nitrous.( Which would be best). The knock sensor will pull timing if it "hears" any detonation. Also, I"ll agree with Tom, if you are going to the drag strip one night to do a few runs, adding a few gallons of race fuel would be a great idea. Fuel makes many things alot safer. Pump gas is such crap by comparison.
Also running the cooler copper plug from Ford would be better as well. Make sure you have a fuel pressure safety switch in with the nitrous set-up as well. As long as you have enough fuel you should be okay. If in doubt, even jet the fuel "pill" one step rich to start with until you get a reading off of your spark plugs.

well that's the thing. i wanna be able to have my aftermarket tune in at all times but be safe with the nitrous by somehow retarding the timing. just wanna make sure that i would be fine doing that with the J&S. thanks for the replies.

the 22c's right? i just got them and installed them and i just replaced the fuel filter also

dont they make flip chips for this? My buddy is running a 100 shot on his lightning. We installed a 3 program PCM. One program is for pump gas, one for race gas, one for spray.

There is no way you can accidentally sray on the wrong tune. When you flip to chip 3 it arms the bottle.

I think if I sprayed again it would be this way. Before I was running a 75 shot from a ZEX kit. I had to flash my car for NOS before I went out... it didnt seems that horribly sluggish on the tune.

They do its a SCT 3 or 5 ( i cant remember) position chip. You have to have the tune burned to it.....like if you went with the PRP you can get the Flasher or the 3 position chip with burner. You may be able to get a preditor one to...id ask tom about that.
