another 'will i need this' thread

Setup in progress: 14b, 8 psi, DSM SMIC, going to get 42# or higher injectors and a bigger MAF along with a XCal II tune. Shooting for 200whp on a stock Zetec with just a 65mm tb.

Somebody told me I should get a better fuel pump, but that means more money. Is a bigger/better fuel pump necessary for my goals?

If I had to guess I would say yes... simply for the fact of the year of your car.

The next question is have you had the fuel pump TSB done on your car??? If so you may not need a bigger pump.

Are you the original owner of the car? The early model focuses had problem with the fuel pumps. Have you ever gone around a right hand turn with 1/4 of a tank of gas or less and it feel like the car is trying to die? Have you ever been driving with less then a 1/4 and the car felt like it was going to die, really struggling to move.

If so you're fuel pump may be/probibly is going bad. If you are not the original owner go to ford and have them run OASIS on the car to see if the pump has ever been changed.

I would definately recommend getting the new revised fuel pump if you haven't already. The last thing you want to do is run out of fuel/pump dies while in boost. Unless you like picking up pieces of engine off the road. lol

Ah, that might be the source of my rough idle when the tank is low. And it is rough. One time it got so bad that the lights on the dash came on as if the car had stalled and then the revs went back to normal again. Would an SVT fuel pump be sufficient then?

I've had the same question. After talking to a few people that had turboed theirs noone seems to be upgrading their pumps until almost 400whp. Apparently the 05/06 duratec pump is a decent upgrade for then. I have read a lot of mustang owners using svt focus pumps as an upgrade, but they are using more than one. The pump isn't quite the same, but not a real upgrade from the newly designed pump that ford will give you. Oh Ford is giving until 2010 to get the pump changed out and warranty on the new one until 2010. This post is getting long, but if you search recall in the forum there is a link to a ford site that will take your VIN and tell you if there are any open recalls for your specific car.
