Lightbulb Two Vortech questions...

1) Will the Vortech kit for the SVT work with a Zetec? What are the differences? 2) If a Vortech (w/aftercooler) on a stock Zetec makes 195hp, how hard would it be to get to about 240hp? I know I'd need to raise compression and get a header/exhaust, but what is the other stuff to worry about? Do the Vortechs have smaller pulleys? Thanks!

PS: One more question: anyone have a guess on the Cosworth SC price?

i believe the SVT and the Zetec are almost the same but at the same time, they have their differences. As for more power, just do most of the stuff you normally would (header, exhaust, pullies, etc)

If your gonna get a Vortech kit why don't you buy the kit for the normal Zetec why put an SVT specific kit on a Zetec???

Tom's Turbo gives a Proven 240 hp 240 Torque on an SVT the Vortech claims 270hp but only like 205 torque on the SVT (I haven't seen a dyno yet)

I belive the Vortech is gonna give better hp Gains but Tom is gonna give you hp and Torque on an equal level which if you look at many of the fast cars they have these numbers matched or really close

STI 300hp 300Torque
M3 333hp 333Torque
WRX 227hp 220torque
Evo 273hp 275torque

Well, the SVT kit claims 276hp, the Zetec 195hp; I wouldn't mind 80hp more, if there is almost no difference in the kit

The SVT IM and TB are in a difrent format than that of the ZX3, and for that reason the SVT Vortech kit wont fit the ZX3, unless your willing to change your ZX3's IM and TB to the SVT's if they fit.

Vortechs #'s are at the crank not at the wheels.

ok; I guess with some upped compression (~10.4:1), and a new manifold (FR, perhaps), a 70mm TB, and misc stuff, I could top the SVT rating...hmm, sounds good...one more question...what happens to the MAF when a Vortech is bolted on? I was thinking of getting a Cobra MAF, but not if I just take it apart or plug the stuff into the Vortech kit...ideas?

No, the SVTF and ZX3 kits are not the same. Not only is the intake in a slightly different position, but the blower mounts to the tranny bell housing case, and obviously the ZX3 and SVT also have different tranny's. As for the power difference, the majority of this comes from the slightly higher boost (they saw almost 11 lbs of boost at redline on mine), higher redline, and better flowing heads. But the compression has very little to do with it.

The good news though is all the parts that are different, are fairly cheap parts. So if you come across a good deal on one kit, its easy to modify it for the other one.

Definitely do NOT raise your compression if you plan to get with boost. The extra 2% power gain per CR point is definitely not worth the limitations and danger that comes with it. Be happy you have a 9.6:1 CR. :)

As for the power, you'll probably see right under 250 whp and just under 200 ft/lbs on a dyno jet dyno with the SVT kit on an otherwise bone stock car.

And if you plan to swap in a different MAF (good idea by the way), you might as well just by the tuner kit, and spend the extra money to get either the SCT kit, the Diablo Predator kit, or one of Tom's MIC's. Definitely will give you much greater control and ultimately more power.

No turbo lag either with a supercharger, but you trade off for high end power. Go to vortech's website and check out Hector's car. He runs a 12.9 or so with the vortech and minor mods here and there, along with some custom cams.
