zx3 stock internals

how much hp would the stock zx3 internals hold. i know there are a few people who are running about 10 psi on the stock internals with around 220 whp but how much more hp would they take before needing to be replaced? tom, any input?

you can get to 250 hp on stock internals on a GOOD tune. anything above that is pushing it. there has been a 300 whp focus out there (forgot who it is) that was boosted with stock everything except cams.

I think if you are going to be puting money into your motor and would be a good investment to not even be asking this question and be rebuilding the bottom end for insurance

sweet, i was actually searching around to see how much HP my stock internals could hold when i get turbo'd. of course i would love to have a built engine but you gotta understand that that costs a lot of money too, almost as much as getting boosted. maybe a year or so after i get my turbo put in ill get the CFM built block they have on their website

Well if you are looking to see how much it will hold. I would say 225-250whp with a really good tune. Really have to make sure detonation doesn't occur or the motor will be history.

I strongly disagree with adding a turbo before building a block. I mean, sure you can run a turbo with a detuned tune and you will make much less hp so that you dont blow the block apart. But, why would you go ahead and install a short block later, you would just be going backwards and adding to the cost of the total project. It just doesn't make sence.

Think about if the block blow up too. Then you run the risk of pretty much destoying everything. So im not understanding how it would cost less money to install a turbo on a stock short block.

Of course its done all the time, but you gotta understand that I think much differently than most others

Im not sure where the detuned tune came from but ill assure you when i tune a turbo ZX3 with a stock engine it is tuned to what is safe for max TQ and HP , I dont detune it just because it has a stock block , it is tuned the same as a built block Assy

I have pushed 320+ on a 100% all stock engine when i first built my Turbo kit but i feel for everyday use that 250 is the max safe zone and i have customers that have been doing this for years

Im saying that for an everyday driver, its doesnt seem wise to tune the car for optimal power. So in a sense, it would be detuning the car (pulling timing out) so that the car is reliable. Im sure you could go all out with the stock internals, but how long would it last.

You push your car hard enough and it will break at 250whp. It just seems like a much better investment to build a short block that will hold up to what you want to thow at it and then some. I mean if that doesnt make sense then I will stop voicing my opinion on this forum because it would be obvious that I am wasting my time.
