Question PLS HELP with stalling Focus 2000 LX

It has been a really bumpy ride.I'm learning a lot about cars owning the Focus.

Latest problem:
Stalling at lower revs, choking when accelerate.
Things done:
New fuel pump and spark plugs.
Lots of injector cleaner fluid in the tank.
Oil changed.

Engine light NOT on.

Potential problems sugested:
fuel filter, coil, injectors.

It's $85 to hook it up to a computer and it didn't show anything anyway. Dealer will just continue changing parts till I'm broke.

Your advice appreciated.
Thanks.
VITO

This may not be the cause of the problem, but have you checked your battery cables? There was a recall on those in 2000.

it sounds like fuel pump still. either that or the filter. Bet on a fuel problem though, try the filter first, it's the cheepest thing. Has to be either fuel or air. Air problems doesn't usally act that bad though. Have you changed the air filter? Like I said it's more likily a fuel pump. Try the fix all too. Disconnect the battery, incase the tech that worked on your car didn't do when they changed the pump.

My bet is on the fuel filter.

Disconnect the electrical connector on the MAF sensor and take it for a drive. If it runs better the sensor is either dirty or bad. Can't really help you anymore than that without seeing for myself how it runs.

Sounds like the fuel pump to me too but I'm just curious what kind of plugs you put in and did you have the problem before you did that. A lot of people are saying don't put Bosch plugs in the Zetec.

Unhappy

The problem just got worse to the point where I start it up and it dies.
It was the same with old plugs, the Bosh platinium actually improved how it runs (ie. idle etc).
Last time the mechanic hooked it up the code showed misfire on plugs 2 and 3 ???
It still feels like fuel starvation to me .
The darn weather........... kinda hard to work on it in the rain.
Where do I disconnect the MAF sensor and how would it affect the ride - if there is one at all ;(

Thumbs up

Well, finally fixed the problem.
The cause............faulty spark plug wires.
I guess it's a FORD thing, never happened to my other cars, not when nearly new.
Strange that it did not show on the computer !?!?

THANKS FOR EVERYBODYTS INPUT.
This is a great forum.
