Rally America (56k Upgrade or Die)

This past weekend, I headed up to Steamboat Springs, CO for the Colorado COG Rally - which is a part of the Rally America series. The weather was cold and damp and being that Steamboat is out there in the middle of nowhere, there isnt as a big a turn out as the other Rally America events. This was my first time attending, but it certainly wont be the last.

Unlike WRC, you cant go hanging out on the side of the road waiting to get clobbered. They give you specific areas at each stage where you can stand and watch, but they arent too shabby.

There are quite a few small teams that attend and then there is the DC/Subi team - Travis Pastrana and Ken Block. They were pretty much the super stars there and were totally cool to take the time to talk and get pics with
the fans. I even have a sign poster made out to Sleestak, lmao.

My camera was out of commission so I had only my camera phone to rely on....my appologies. Here are some pics from the event. My buddy, Ben, is a professional photographer and had a press pass. He took a metric butt-ton of pics (that means in the thousands), once he gets them posted I will pass on the link.

In the meantime...here ya go:

a few pics of the check in at the special stage

a few pit pics:

and a few from my viewing area during one of the stages:

i had a dope seat:

Here's our buddy Jonas (aka Jone-ass)...the only one who got drunk with me up there around 8k + ft. Yes, he is passed out, hugging an empty 12pk box.

^^ Stage Seven - I saw this from my seat at the fence. My photographer friend got to take part in rolling the car back over, lol.

Wow, wish they had stuff like this in Florida....its too flat for these events....It looked like a bunch of people hit that same spot as the subie did and flipped. It was kinda washed out from multiple cars hitting it lol.

Are those cars required to be registered as street cars? Or why does the one have normal plates on it? Cool pics btw!

plates

Yup they do have to be registered as a street car, while they don't really have to pass emissions standards depending on what class the cars are in. They do have to transition between stages on public roads so they have to obey traffic laws and have plates. Most are registered as a kit car.

They did do an event up in Maine, but you missed it.

I think they have two more events left for the season....the closest one to you will be in Michigan. Hell, we even thought about going out to that one...it is significantly bigger in attendence, number of cars, etc. than the CO event.

Also, I believe they are doing a Special Stage event for rally @ the X-Games. So perhaps if they come out your way you can catch them doing a closed course event (they usually have jumps and such).

Oh, alright. I saw the televised part of the X-Games rally and would love to see a SS like that.
