Cost for MTX rebuild

Im going to need my MTX rebuilt on my car. It has almost 200,000 on the stock trans and clutch.

Anyone have thiers rebuilt. How much at a shop...I dont want to remove it if I dont have too.

Im assuming internals have to be replaced ( which I think is the differential ) and upgrade the clutch to a lighter one. I use this as my daily driver obviously...so I want a lighter clutch but still dependable. Im not to concerned about lanching at 5 or 6 grand, just want it slow down faster and spin up easier.

Thanks for any input.

p.s. clutch shows no problems even now but the synchro's have been poor since about 100,000. I just give it sometime to pop into each gear. Can believe how long it has lasted

it'll have to be removed, thats really the only way to work on it like that.

i'd just suggest buying a new one, it wont cost much more.

What do you do that has you driving over 30000 miles per year???

When the auto on my old Ranger died, it cost over $2k to rebuild. Manuals are easier to do, but buying new might not be a bad idea, either.

Also, that's a pretty good life for a clutch.

Check eBay, someone a while ago had a whole stack of new crated MX-75's that were going for something like $600 each... ah, just looked, only used ones right now... might be worth keeping an eye on. Or look for a low mileage wrecker...

Im a manager for an office equipment company. I cover much of Michigan. Luv the Foci...its comfortable and quiet and gets good mileage...just slow.

If a used trans is sitting out of a car?

Anyway to check it over for possible problems. Obviously not just a cracked housing. Im concerned about buying somebody elses problems.

Maybe I should just pickup a bad one and have it rebuilt and then swap it?

Focus Salvage sells salvage MTX-75s for ~$450 plus freight charges...probably be cheaper than a rebuild between all-new internals plus labor to take it apart and put it back together. Jeremy is very reputable...I seriously doubt he would send you a trashed transmission, or at least wouldn't do so knowingly.

yeah, i've heard good things about him.

i'd still suggest going to fordparts.com and just ordering brand new.

esp for all the driving you do.

Yep that's what I'd do. And: anything you get would have less miles on it than the one you have now.
