2007 ST or SVT What would u do?

Being a noob to Foci I'm hoping for some help...

I'm getting out of my 2003 Cobra and selling my 2002 Lightning and need a car that can better handle my New York seasons ;>)

I have an X-plan pin and Ford is offering 2.5k cash back right now so I have a nice opportunity to get into a new Focus for the lowest cost possible.

Should I go for a 2007 ST ? or Should I find an SVT ? (given my general proclivity for speed)

I'm thinking that an ST will hold its value a little better than an SE or SES, true or False ?

What appearance and performance mods would you do to help keep its value up ?

Modifications do not increase value.

Now with that out of the way, the SVT is still the better all around package, however, the ST has some things going for it. Its newer, and the 2.3l has great tuning potential.

ST pros:
  • New
  • 2.3l potential

Cons:
  • Limited suspension options
  • Not as exclusive as SVT

SVT Pros:
  • Exclusive
  • Great stock package
  • Larger aftermarket on everything

Cons:
  • Older (harder to find one in primo condition)

I'm sure their are more pros and cons, but thats a quick run down.

go with the 07...for one its NEW...thats always a good thing....as far as performance...its just as good as the svt.....minus the spring height and the hp....but torque makes up for the hp

Good points.. thanks...

I think I may go with an 07 screamin yellow ZX5 SE... its the same as SES or ST for me because I don't want to pay for 17" tires that I'm goin to replace anyway.... or a sports package that Im going to replace with a kit too... I think it may be the best bang for the buck considering the upgrades I'll do in aftermarket.

Check out these Boyd's... http://www.billetwheel.com/cgi/wheel...ies&img=0&tn=1

Thos might just do the trick with Screamin Yellow ! woo

SE only comes with a 2.0l engine instead of the 2.3l found in the ST. Also, it doesn't have rear disc brakes, and lacks a rear sway bar. Also, the ST comese with 16" wheels, not 17". Only the SVT got 17" wheels.

Keep in mind, the only bolt on suspension items are Eibach springs. No dampers. Now, if you want, you can swap out a bunch of parts to make it backwards compatible with 2000-05 suspension parts, and have the full gammet of aftermarket.

Good god those wheels are expensive.

Which car to get depends on your tastes, the "correct" answer all depends on context. Example, I am an SVT owner, and I'm currently looking for an AW11 (84-89) MR2 as a second car. Not to save money, not because its practical, and not because it will last forever. I fully expect to spend money, and a lot of time, to keep my experiment happy.

I own an SVTf not because it was cheap, will hold its value, or will last a long time on OEM parts. I fully expect to spend a lot of time and money replacing clutches, dampers, random relays, DSI switches, tires and wheels, and filling it up with premium. Because, in both cases, its worth every penny to me. If you dont fit in the same catagory, you'd probably be better served with one of the newer Focii.

Biggest thing the ST gives you is a 2.3 L engine. It also gives you 4 wheel disks. Forget everthing else and that's worth the money, IMO.

All I can say is drive them back to back. The 2.0 is nice, but the 2.3 gives the Focus a nice kick in the pants.

thats my point... why pay for 16 inch wheels when I'm simply going to take them off and replace them with 17s? Same goes for stcok Ford discs... I'd simply add better rotors and calipers anyway...

Only difference I see is .3 Liters.... I think I can deal with that... afterall... I'm buying it for all-season commuting, not drag racing...

Personally I would go with the ST for a few reasons. The SVT engines aren't known for reliabality many having problems at 45000 miles. Secondly, if you wanted a SVT for the winter seasons, you would probably have to buy another set of rims cuz it comes with summer rubber where the ST has all season tires for the snow. The ST is not THAT much slower than a SVT anyway. Actually, it is quicker off the line due to torque and low gearing. The ST also responds well to bolt ons. The reliabality of the SVT would probably steer me away from it. It is a great car, but the newest one you could get would be an 04.
