Current ST or 2007 Escape XLT???

Ok, some of you already know I brought my car in for a new clutch under the TSB and when I got it back it was slipping worse then when I brought it in. Well, the shop foreman was talking to me and it came up that they want to put my in another car if it comes down to it but he said we would cross those bridges when we come to them. Well, I was thinking and thinking and thinking and talked to people about this and when it comes down to it... this car has given me nothing but problems...

When I bought the car brand new, we had it for two hours and the shifter cables came undone... broke whatever... so they fix it and I get it back a few days later and have it for another two hours and the cable came undone again but in a different spot this time... so they re-did the whole set of cables and haven't had a problem with that since. But there were other problems like the front caliper stuck and burned my brakes up. Then the gaskets between the spoiler and the trunk are coming out and the spoiler is starting to rattle and they ARE covering it under warranty since they have to order a whole new spoiler but they don't cover a rental car and they need the car for three days... Then there were and STILL are little problems here and there like the dash was cracking, passenger door hinge was off alignment, and some of the current little problems like the passenger side headrest has been messed up from day one... the check engine light came on with like 3000 miles on it... the airbage light came on... these issues are getting SERIOUSLY ANNOYING.

So my dilemma is, they are going to call Ford tomorrow morning about my clutch slipping 50 miles after the new one was put in and they are going to see what the guys in Detroit are going to say... my problem is... I think I don't want this car anymore... and am kind of hoping they are going to want to put me in another car. The sales manager says a comparable car that Ford would possibley want to put me in would be an auto Focus SES... thats completely out of the question... I have a 2.3 Focus ST fully loaded and want me to basically downgrade??? If they want to put me in another vehicle I will only settle for this 2007 Ford Escape XLT... it's nothing special and the only options it really has is a moonroof which I really want, the audiophile system which I have to have, and the safety canopy system or whatever it's called.

I want a few opinion from you guys...

1.) Do you guys think this Escape is nice... I like it and think it would be equal to my ST...
http://www.drewauto.com/107001/index...D=3805&yr=2007

2.) Would it totally be out of the question to call Drew in the moring and tell them that I actually don't want the car anymore and that I prefer to have another vehicle and for them to just keep/buy the car back like the foreman said they might say???

3.) Am I completly crazy for even thinking this even after all these problems???

Sorry for the rant and long story but I need some advice here...

in black or liquid grey. they are pretty cool SUV's, don't get terrible mileage. If i were to get an SUV, this would be the one (unless i could afford one of those turbocharged acuras or a CX-7). Two of my friends have them and love them. They do NOT handle like the focus, but you wouldn't expect that. I say take one for a test drive. They are not hard to drive (i've driven one through traffic in both LA and san fran), and have dece looks. Not a super offroad warrior, but in little pinches will usually get the job done. I'd opt for the duratec v6. Not gobs of power, but enough to get the job done. My friend's are all faster than my focus (granted i drive an LX with the SPI). After my friend wrecked her focus she got an escape and loves it alot more, the only thing she doesn't like is that she can't haul balls through a corner.

dude, i have to say this, please dont get mad or nothing, but i think if the clutch is slipping less than 50 miles after it was replaced, maybe you really should review your technique of shifting. Something is definatley wrong, but if the clutch was just replaced. Either something isn't properly adjusted, or you're not doing it quite right.

it could also be the clutch is just wearing itself in a bit.

but if you really do get rid of your ST, please part out the mods first, cuz i'm interested in some of
em.

personally, i think that escape is gonna dissapoint you a lot. and I mean a LOT. I should know, cuz we just bought a 2006 Escape Limited, with the V6 and 4wd. That thing has a lot of body roll, not particularly good accel, the interior is similar in size to the Focus, esp the backseat areas. The trunk is larger though.

We got a top of the line Limited model, and it's sorely lacking compared to my bone-stock ST. And it had its problem too, when we got it, we were driving it home, and a cop pulls us over for burned out brakelights. Also, the spare tire is hanging down from the winch system.

but good luck bro.

Escaper XLT with sunroof, adiophile, curtan air bags, 24,200

2006 ST: 20,500. Plus if its lemoned you still have a deduction for miles driven. Also that not comparable. An SES is as close as you get unless you get a new 07 ST should be much diffrent.

Unless your gunna poney up the extra 5k, cuz the dealer shure isnt.

Also with gas pricess i dunno if id be running into any kind of SUV, you need one? Because if you did you wouldt nt have gotten the ST in the 1st place.

The Escape we are looking at does have the V6 and it does NOT have 4WD... just a front wheel drive... I know it's going to handle nohting like the ST but look at where the ST is getting me???

This is going to sound rude... but that was an ignorant comment... I mean I didn't know it was slipping until I got into it some... like I said it was just fine driving aruond easily but when the RPM's got up there and the power started goin through the tranny it started to slip... I can ALMOST surely say that the clutch was most likely messed up when we picked it up...

A friend of mine has an XLT V6 and well the bodyroll to me would be expected with an SUV... it's not a race car remember that. As for the accel, she would burn some major rubber taking off and around corners so I wouldn't be dis-appointed there I am sure... I personally like them... I would say it's about as fast as a new stock ST...

That sounds like the dealer you bought it from has a real sucky prep department...

As for the Escape being somewhat more expensive and the milage and stuff??? First off, its not my problem that this car is giving me problems so I would be having some issues with them taking valuer off the car with the milage... thats not my problem remember! The dealer where the Espcae is at lowered it to $24,199 so it's not as much as it was advertised on the net... we'll have to see what it's like tomorrow... I know that the V6 Espcaes are pretty quick.... a friend had one... and they no slouch.

I dunno matt, i really can't say much about it, cuz i just dont know, but i'm trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with your car. And sorry for the stickshift technique comment, its just that everyone that drives stick has their little habits. (lol, now that i think about it, i'm talking to your mom wheni say review her technique, not you.)

and yeah, that dealer does have a less than stellar prep department. Those are the guys that delivered my ST wwithout the ST shifter knob. Otheswise, theyre actually quite good.

i still think if you're gonna get a small SUV, a Rav4 or Passport might be better, not the least of which because you can get them both with stick, i believe.

Our Escape is quite nice, but its just so totally different from my ST, that i think you with your modded up ST is not gonna have much if any fun with it. Esp if its the FWD only variant.

FWIW I traded a nicely optioned '05 Mercury Mariner (Escape Twin, but nicer) owned outright, for my '06 Focus Wagon. I am far happier with my ZXW (It actually has more room!). Just a much more satisfying drive. Icing on the cake when its time for a fillup.
