Approaching 36,000 miles

I can't believe my car has almost 36,000 miles on it.

With the exception of the occasional hard start issue (I wish there was a fix for this), I have not had any problems with my car.

A couple of people were telling me that I should bring it to the dealer to have it checked over before my 36K warranty runs out. I was curious... Is this what most people do? I wasn't planning on bringing it to the dealer to have this done.

Well, it wouldn't hurt, but unless you have a really nice dealer, I would expect most dealers would want to charge you for this, since it takes mechanics time with no reimbursement from Ford, e.g., the warranty covers fixing problems and defects, but it doesn't cover "check it out to make sure everything is OK."

If I was going to pay for it, I'd take it to an independent mechanic and see what he would charge to do a good inspection, making sure he knew the purpose, i.e., "it's going out of warranty soon, what would you charge to give it a good inspection to identify any problems I should get fixed before the warranty expires?"

Personally, I probably would just do a careful visual inspection myself, looking in particular for leaks. But having a mechanic check it out might be worth it if it give you peace of mind.

P.S. If you have an automatic, I assume you had the transmission serviced at the recommended 30,000 miles for a fluid change. If not, I would higly recommend it. If you didn't have it done at 30,000, your transmission warranty is probably void already, but Ford automatic transmissions are not know for their durability, in general, and doing the fluid service on time is one of the most helpful things you can do to increase your odds of a long-life transmission.

Whats the deal with the "hard start"? Sounds like a warranty issue to me. Why is there no fix?
