I have the SPI, is ZX3 better?

subject says it all. I own the SPI 4 door non hatch. I'm lookin into it though and I'm seeing that the ZX-3 is a better way to go. But I'm wondering if its really all its cracked up to be. I know they use it in the rally races and stuff. idk...

ZX3's have the zetec which is a more powerful engine, other than that i dont know what else would make it any better.

Depends on who you ask. lol The Zetec engine has a lot more aftermarket goodies than the SPI, but the SPI is more durable.

BTW: That Rally Focus is an AWD turbo pushing somewhere around 30psi.

While the Zetec is a bit more powerful engine then the SPI, I would look for a Duratec-equipped one instead. More power stock and responds quite well to modifications.

Fellows is correct in my experience.

SPI is considered a simpler, much more efficient, and tougher motor. While I have read a few people's complaints, I tend to think of these as a vast minority. At 110HP max, though, the SPI finds itself lacking in the power department.

The Zetec engine was revolutionarily (word?) powerful at it's release for a 2.0L engine. With stock (basically as stocky parts as you can get - thanks Ford) you're rolling with ~130HP, and your gains are often better with tunes than the SPIs.

For a comparison to the 4Dr vs the ZX3, although I have no definitive knowledge on this, I could see how the ZX3 has a remarkably lighter body, and with these tiny engines trust me it makes a difference.

In the end, I have an SPI and I really do kinda wish I had a Zetec, they really do have all the parts ready to go. Especially on the Hatchbacks, you can pretty much find anything you want and they have it.

But then theres a whole 'nother set of fun to be had in modifying something that DOESN'T have everything already prepackaged and ready to go. The SPI's engine is remarkably similar to many in the past, and so with some searching, some know-how, and a bit of tom foolery, the SPI can be upgraded pretty decently.

Also as a personal preference I don't like the hatchbacks. My mom actually offered me her newer hatchback right after she bought it because I was jealous of it's MP3 Capable CD Player (lol - so trade cars, right?) but I declined.

IMHO (and this IS an opinion so this is all on you) you can make a Sedan look better than a hatchback, although... please don't kill me Hatchback fans =)

I myself have a sedan and a hatchback. The only thing I don't like about the sedan is getting bigger things in and out of the trunk.

There are a few more technical differences too, the ZX3 sports factory front and rear sway bars (however small they are), while the sedans (at least the SPI and Zetec equipped ones) do not. The sedons have a front sway bar, but its not as thick as the ZX3, IIRC, the ZX3 has 19mm front and the Sedan is 18mm. The advantage to that is the Hatch has the parts already set for a stronger rear sway bar, whilst the Sedan requires you to purchase factory parts for the add. Im personally a fan of the sedans styling over the hatch (Ive owned both at one point or another), but whatever you like more is best. The ZX3 handles quite well stock and goes quite well, so if you're looking for a sportier drive the hatch is the way to go (Or just do like me, get the SE sport with the Zetec and have the best of both worlds!!!)

I could be wrong, but the ZTS sedans have rear sway bars.
