Gas Mileage Getting Better!

Our gas mileage was about 29 MPG and slowly fell to about 21-23.

Our MPG this last fill up was 27.76. The MPG reading before that was 26.54.

Only thing that has really changed is we had to get a new battery and alternator.

But I'm glad it's going back up!

There was another thread (your's maybe?) about a bad alternator possibly lowering mileage. I didn't know how much it could lower it but from your note quite substantially! (I never really had the chance to drive with a bad alternator, the only one I had go bad just plain died!)

Yeah I was the one wondering about alternator lowering mileage. I wonder if that was indeed the case.

I'm getting ready to see mine start to drop again; winter in the northeast means I let it idle till warm, and it means our gas goes to the pig swill winter mix crap, last season it hit me for around 5mpg average.

^^ sorry, I guess that wasnt super-clear, not enough coffee yet. Hit my mileage by an average of 5 mpg over the winter seasons, from around 30 to around 25.

I'd wager money I could manage 5mpg overall if I tried, car wouldn't like it tho

i could get 0mpg.... just turn the car on and let it sit...lol...

seriously though... a lot seems to affect the gas mileage on a focus..back when it was like 90 degrees, and i wasnt even using air conditioning, i got shitty mileage, now that its like 65-70 degrees outside, it seems to be getting better...
