Unhappy Should I buy this car?

First off, first Post and not to car savvy...

I'm 18 and starting college in 5 days so I need a car. I've recently been looking into purchasing a fairly cheap, economical car to get to school and work when I get a job.
My father works for ford so I would be repeatedly bitchslapped if I went foreign. For a few months I've been driving my Dad's Ford Focus ZTS and really enjoy the steering control and gas mileage on it. Unfortunatly the focus seems to be in pretty high demand locally and havn't been able to find to many used on the cheaper end that have good mileage.

After looking a little harder I found a guy within a mile selling a 2003 focus LX with 12,000 miles for 6000$. Me and my father went and looked at it and to me the car was beautiful. The body had minimal scratches, and the interior was flawless(smell and appearance).

I've Previously seen the same cars at the dealarships selling for 10grand + so it seems like a really good deal. However the guy said that the car was in a 'frontal collision, in which the frame shifted about an inch', but the car under the hood and the body all look perfectly fine and he said 'it was repaired without any problems and everything under the hood is stock'.

The test drive went smoothly it sounds and feels good, the breaks and tires are like new. Its also an automatic. Hes says hes selling it because it belonged to his mother who moved to the Ukraine.

I guess what I need to know is...
Despite the accident is this still a good deal?

Can a collision like that damage the structural integrity of the car permanently?

Also it was suggested that I do a full carfax but lack a credit card. Does anyone have an active account in which they and can kindly assist me?

Any advice, questions, and comments warmly welcomed.

I would be careful. It could give problems down the road. If you can't get the carfax on it I would pass it up.

My car has a salvage title from a run in with a deer. As long as someone who knows what they are doing fixxed it, it could be fine. Then again i dont think my frame is shifted at all...

if its the lx with the spi, i heard they get really good gas mileage and are really reliable, but a lil on the slow side, but the way you talk about it, it doesnt sound like that bothers you much, and you really like the car. so go for it
