My new ZX3 and a few questions!

Hey everyone! Just making my first post of many to come!

I just purchased an '07 Aqua Blue Focus SE! I must say I really love the car. I am a Ford guy, but I took some time to research the other cars in the market and I just kept coming back to the Focus.

One of the main contributors to my choice was the price. My company has a deal with Ford for X-Plan pricing. That and the rebate made my Focus about 12k. Top that off with my trade (Nice 1975 Fiat Spyder) and I was out the door for 10k (well, 11k after taxes and extended warranty).

My car is Aqua Blue Metallic with the standard SE options and the cruise options etc.

I haven't emptied my first tank of gas yet, but I am thinking I am around the 33mpg mark. Time will tell!

I love the way the car handles. I must say it is quite good for a just above base compact. I hear some folks complaining that the handling is not good, but I just don't see that. And the power is quite decent! It has decent low end and revs cleanly, so I have no complaints there.

My current stable includes my pair of 94 Mustang GT's (one Vert) and my '77 911 3.0, so I am no noob to performance.

I am looking to find out about the mods available for this car. Specifically a set of springs/sways that work with the factory struts and a decent tach and mount.

I am also looking at upgrading the wheels. Have you guys seen these?

Tuner Wheels

They look a little like TSW Hocks, but they are not. They are very cheap, and I am not a fan of cheap wheels. Has anyone looked at them up close or know anything about them?

Otherwise I am looking at these:

Euro SVT Dark Argent

Any help with the springs would be great! Thanks!

Mike

Suspension wise, your choices are limited. Very limited. Eibach made some springs, but other than that, I don't think there is much out there. Ford redesigned it back in 2006. Not saying its impossible, but you can make more stuff work; you just have to swap out a lot of parts, like the front knuckles and similiar...

Eibach Springs

I put a set of Eibach Sportline springs on my 06 ZX3 and I love them (www.tirerack.com). I left the factory struts and shocks on and it still handles fine. They will wear prematurely though so I'll be upgrading them soon.

Here's a page where I track everything I've done and I also tracked my milage since I bought it...

No, I didn't. I'm not sure, but I think the drop is just on the cusp of needing one.

The drop is about 1.8 to 2.0 on the front and around 2.0 to 2.2 on the rear.

I imagine any more than that and you would definately need it. Havn't noticed any abnormal handling or tire wear yet.

Although, it has been pulling right and have had to rotate the tires a couple times and it went away. I'm running really cheap rubber and attribute the pull to that mostly.

Thanks a bunch for the info! I am sure things will come out for our cars soon enough. I just planned on doing the springs and leaving the struts until they wore out.

Watch your wheel weights before switching wheels. Some tuner wheels and the stock SVT wheels are rather hefty. That will cut into your fuel economy, so it depends on what's most important to you. The aluminum 15's that come with the Sport SE option are the lightest stock wheel/tire combo on the Focus. Rota wheels are light cast wheels that stand up to autocross racing. Check the "Wheel and Tire" forum for more information on the stock wheels.

A CAI will improve power and economy. There are lots of options available there ranging from $300 to $30. I have the $30 option (3.25" cone filter mated to the MAF tube) but I'm considering upgrading to the $300 K&N Air Charger in the future.

Most anything that will fit the 2.3 will fit the 2.0 with the exception of some adjustable cam gears. UDP's are not a good idea because there is no key in the crank, the crank mounted cam drive gear will just fall off when you remove the pulley, and you have no way of lining it back up. The motor is an interference motor.

The most common upgrades are CAI, exhaust, and flash tuner. From there you can decide what else you want to spend money and time on once you've figured out how this motor is put together.

Sweeet! I am looking at wheels now, but it is hard to find a decent set of 17" that don't weigh a ton.

Any pics of the cone filter install?

The svt euro wheels are pretty light, i think like 20lbs, and OZ makes light wheels as well.

Well, if the euro SVT wheels are 20lbs, the tuner wheels are 22. Not that much more really. OZ does have some light wheels. I am look at the ROTA's these days. 15-17lbs for a 17" wheel. Pretty light, but the 4x108 bolt pattern is only available in a few styles.
