shifting a 02 zx3

hey guys, i was just curious as too what kind of rpms i should be at when i am shifting gears, both for normal driving and acceleration, and also if i wanna smoke some "riced" 87 honda crx with the bumpers falling off(true story). right now normal driving i shift around 3k rpm, unless im wanting to go faster then i wait for a little bit over 4, is this good bad or what? let me know so i can tweak my shifting a bit better.

also, my engine is the 4 cyl zetec and i got a CAI, so if that changes anything. thanks!

3k is what I shift when normally driving, a bit higher on hills, a bit lower on downhill or just don't care. I shift around 5,500 when WOT. If you have ever dynoed your car, you can check the dyno graph and find optimal shift points.

Personally, I'd figure out where the limiter is on the car, and shift 200RPM below that, when you're really getting on it. I'd figure out redline online. Or, just rev it in neutral and hit redline once. This isn't really good for the car, but one time gently shouldn't hurt. Just enough to see and remember where it's at. So if it hits the limiter at 5700 or whatever, shift at 5500-5600 when you're hammering throttle.
Shifting at 3K is good for normal driving, sometimes I shift below that a bit just for gas mileage reasons. But 3K is a good mix of MPG and pick up. Of course, when I'm hammering it, I shift at 7100, because I've got the SVT. BWAHAHAHA.

That's true on the SVT with the dual stages runners, but the standard Zetec makes no power near the redline.

Fuel cutoff on the Zetec is 6750. I'm not sure what the SVT is. 7k?

that's where they make power... depending on what motor, and what modifications.

if you want to smoke some "riced" 87 honda crx with the bumpers falling off...
just drive the car, and practice shifting to learn where your car makes power, I am sure you'll beat 'em even with super slow shifting.
