EDR/CDR - Event or Crash Data Recorders

So, Event Data Recorders came up in the news again. So, no one seems to have posted on here which Focus models have it. I won't get into the logistics of it infringing on our liberties, I just want to know if I have it and if it is an external unit to the OBD II controller.

I found this link that lists cars with a CDR:
http://www.harristechnical.com/downloads/cdrlist.pdf

No Focus listed.

So ideas?

Re-read the PDF.
It says "supported vehicles".
To me that's an indication that an aftermarket device would/should be able to work with the vehicle. Not that it already has a device.

But then I'm curious on what data they consider for EDR?
I know the Focus will save a few things only if they have ABS. The data is retrievable from the ABS controller, not the engine computer.
So the lists might be a reflection of what vehicles use supported and equipped ABS controllers?

its actually embedded in the rcm (restraint control module). it also reads the ecu through the bus.
most of the readings are things like gforce, acceleration, deceleration, speed at time of impact, throttle position, restraint deployment time, seatbelt connected, and a few other parameters. doesnt use the abs since other than an off/on reading, sensors are all over cars anymore or embedded in the rcm

The "recorder" is not a physical device but rather it is firmware in one or more existing modules.
The RCM (as mentioned by goinloco1) knows a lot about what's going on when it comes to vehicle dynamics.

My 2014 focus owners manual states that there is a data recorder in my focus.
The "support" is terminology that the Bosch company or (RIMKUS) uses to state the ability of their product to retrieve data. Forgive any misstatements that I may have made in a previous post.

http://www.crashforensics.com/files/CDRVehicleList.pdf

"The Bosch Crash Data Retrieval Software and Hardware
products ((support)) the retrieval of crash data from Airbag
Control Modules (ACM), Roll-over Sensors (ROS) and
Powertrain Control Modules (PCM) installed in vehicles
listed in this document as indicated by the markings in
the column labeled ‘‘Module’’. ".

I have read that the EDR records 30 seconds of data when a trigger event occurs, I suppose mashing the gas, exceeding the speed limit, having the airbag deploy after those two occurrences will be problematic for that driver should some authority choose to discover it. Interestingly my 2014 Focus owners manual says the dealer can not access the EDR data without proper authority such as a court order. However, beware because it says an official can access the EDR data. The EDR can be good or bad depending "IF" their is an injury or fatality depending on who did what 30 seconds prior to an EDR recorded event. If the police have available on scene an EDR recorder they can plug it in and then the lawyers get to sort out the EDR data. Can a candidate for political office scrub the data? No comment at this time.

it actually only starts when panic braking, airbag sensor is set, or in case of rollover the yaw sensors activate it.

it could care less about mashing the gas or speed limits. It would be activating itself all the time. Alot of people mash the gas merging on interstates, passing, etc.
Nowhere in the us is the speed limit the same, interstate is 80 here and 70 the next state over. and you cant surpass the speed limiter on a car.
