DIY Tuning from eBay... scam???

Well, this looks like it could be a GREAT deal.

Kinda looks like the Xcal 1, but comes with software to do it yourself. They make it seem like any old Joe can come up with a quality tune. I mean it's possible that they made a more user friendly version so an average guy can do it with little knowledge of how the ECU operates, but it seems that would be worth alot more than this...

Well, maybe its a deal, maybe it's a scam...

I would still go through Randy or Wayne. I wouldn't trust myself enough to tune my own car.

Yeh, that's what I'm thinking, but it might be fun to play around with. That's what I was thinking, but I mean $300 to play around is not worth it.

300. + 50 more will get you the flasher from either wayne or Randy and you can just trust the people who know what they are doing. The ECU is a touchy subject, i would not touch it unless I knew ABSOLUTY what I was doing.

MarcyMotorsport from Focaljet touched upon this subject.

Quote:
I've actually seen the software and hardware for this at SEMA. The version they sell here is pretty limited. Your changes are limited to drop down items in a menu, and you are limited to their "best guess" tuning paramaters based on the options you select for your modifications. They do have a version of the software that is more advanced like SCT's old Advantage 2.9 software, but it is a whole lot more money. An Xcal-2 with a Pro-Racer Package is a much better deal in the long run.
