03 SVT or 06 ZX3 SES?

I'm buying a focus for commuting, but don't know which one is a better choice:
03 SVT, 58k miles, around $10,000
06 or 07 ZX3 SES, brand new, well-equipped, $14000

I know SVT should have a better performance and more fun (in stock), but ZX3 SES is brand new...
Your opinion is appreciated.

Does the SVT have powertrain warranty?

If it's for commuting, I don't think I would recommend the SVT. I am currently looking for another car to buy, so I stop racking up the miles on mine. It doesn't get really great mileage and uses premium fuel. Plus, if you can keep the miles off the SVT, it is holding value pretty well.

warranty, man, svt at 58000 k miles will requiere extensive maintanence, 2006 zx3 while not as fast or flashy is the best option ... no worries about warranty, nice new car, you will not regret it. cheers

Why would it require extensive maitenance? If it has the powertrain warranty, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks.
It has the 5year/100k powertrain warranty.
Is the ZX3 much worse than SVT in performance?
I'm looking for a balance between value and performance...couldn't figure it out

You are right...I just like the look and the performance of the SVT but I kinda worry about its reliability after 60k...Is it worth to get it for $9k or 10k?

I'd go with the new one. Yeah the new one may not be as fast but you'll save money when EVERYTHING is covered whereas only powertrain is on the SVT.

The rare SVT for me, if the car has'nt been wrecked & been maintained decently. Not a fan of the 05+ mazda focus, so I might be a little bias. I can do a lot to the SVT for the 4 thousand dollor saving to make it good as new, but not everybody has a garage full of tools, enjoys working on focuses, years of experence fixing cars, & likes driving a car that you don't see hundreds of other people driving. Powertrain warrantys are good, but to get warranty work done on the little things can be a nightmare. Your just another number to the stealerships. It just depends on your situation. For me warranty doesnt mean sh#* on a 3 year old car. No its not a new car, but it does have some advantages.

The duratec 2.0l in the new focus is very nice, however they cheapened alot of things in the 07 foci. If your looking for something to mod and screw around with and dont care about little things like abs, and sunroof and column mounted audio controls then the new one may be your choice. If you want something with everything out of the box than an SVT may be better, it has a sterio with sub, big wheels, decently quick, and requires maybe 3 things to be a great car(flash,STS, CAI) Just depends, and SVT dont have any diff maint. then a zetec block and even then it be just like if you got used zx3 and had to repair it, that is if it broke. SVTs have minor issues and I never here of one making the car not drivable ect. silly things go wrong that are an easy fix. I dont have enough miles to talk but mine has been trouble free as well as all of my friends all 5 have SVTs of varios years and they are driven fairly hard and do fine with reg mant.

I would get the new focus. I love my svt, but it has a lot of quirks that annoy me. And after driving gop114's 05 focus..I wish i had waited and gotten an ST or newer zx3. I had an 02 zx3 before my svt and I still miss it. Plus you can mod the new one to be just as fast or faster than the svt and throw a suspension under the ses and have a car that is just as fun as the svt.
