Installing my Apexi exhaust and JIC coilovers on my mr-s today!

Hey guys, remember me? I had the turbo sedan with the CF hood? It's been a while since I posted on the site. I was moving and stuff, so time was short. Anyways, I told a few folks I'd keep them updated on my mr-s. I'm installing my JIC Magic coilovers today ($1500) and my Apexi N1 exhaust ($500). I've alos got some Cusco sway coming in the mail and I've upgraded the tires to some BFGoodrich g-force sports, 205/50/15 up front and 225/50/15 in the rear.

Up next is the moment I've been waiting for since I got the car. After I complete some training in October, I'll be heading over to Houston to have one of the guys from Spyderchat swap my engine and tranny. I'll be coming from the stock 140hp 1zz + 5 speed to the 180hp 2zz + 6 speed tranny. I can't wait! I'll be updating this thread with new additions to my car, so look out for it if you're interested.

I'll post some pics later on when I finish the install.

BTW, where are the San Antonio fofo owners?! I've seen quite a few modded Foci out here...

Glad to hear your car MR-S project is going well. Since we talked last (when I bought your hood) I took my car to JMS to have it tuned and they melted a piston. I rebuilt with JE pistons and Eagle rods. I have the car sold, I just have to get it tuned. I am about the begin a V8 ZX5 project. I have the car and the motor. I still need the tranny and alot of time.

Good luck with your project!!!

Dang, how did they end up doing that? Was it user error or were you running too lean? I've heard nothing but good reviews about JMS. How is the hood treating you btw?

Once I get this 2zz in, I'll be upgrade the oil pump/cooler and getting a baffled pan, then dropping in some upgraded valves/springs along with some new bumpsticks and an Apexi PFC. Then it should be able to rev up to 9500rpms and make power up there too. Should be good for 180whp, maybe more. Of course this won't be done until maybe the middle of next year, but I've got it all planned out.

I've got the exhaust on, and it sounds very nice. Apexi makes some quality parts. I'll get a clip later on.

Definitely take pictures of the V8 swap!! I know for a fact the JMS can tune that for you.

About 4 hours into the tuning, the car started smoking. He blamed it on the Turbo seals, which it could have been. There was no way to tell until I returned to my shop and tore down the motor. It had melted pistons across the board, #4 being the worst then 3,2 and 1. Apparently he was running it way too lean.

This is not to say that JMS isn't good with the Mustangs. I have heard many great things about there V8 tuning abilities. I guess the SVT focus is just a different monster.

Oh well, live and learn.

Everyone that has seen the hood has loved it. I added a modified vent visor to the underside of the hood vents to channel water to the side in order to keep it from draining directly on top of the turbo and manifold. Of course, its on the underside of the hood and can't be seen from the outside.

Nice, definitely take some pics so I can see. I always wanted to add something to the vents, but never got around to it.

How did the NOT know the car was running lean? Weren't they monitoring the A/F? Sucks you have to go through all of that, but like you said, live and learn. Now you have a near bulletproof engine. You'd better not be pushing less than 15psi...

He don't know a price yet but I think he said prolly 20-25 30 tops. They are awesome! I'll keep you posted also man. And I am really interested in that swap :D Get some pics of the progress of it. later

I always thought the MR-2 stood for Mid-engine, Rear wheel drive...
2 how many people it fits...

I am probably wrong...

But the JIC magic kits are top notch quality!! I seem them on my friends Mazdaspeed Miata, and damn that was slammed to the max.
