Need advice on 2.0 Civic Si

I can't really go to a Honda forum to do this, becuase they might be a little too bias. But I really need to know the good and bad of this car. I know it's got 160hp, but only 130tq. This is only five more ft-lbs. than my SPI. Also, a 2004 Si will run me about $16k, which is a smidge much for me (I could probably get an SVT cheaper). I would want a 2002-2004, beacuse they have the 2.0 Vtecs, and I think the hatches look sexy. I also really like the dash-mounted shifter (I was reading Car & Driver or somewhere, and they were saying that it's really comfortable). Anyway, give me your opinions on them.

its an okay car. the aftermarket support is insane and def gives it an advantage over the svt which is now a dead platform. keep that in mind. not to mention it seems u already like them.

I like the older moldel SI, but I like my torque more.

Get a 2.3 duratec, enjoy more torque 10 less hp that will EASILY be gained by intake and exhaust.

There ya go.

dont get a 2002-2005. honda stuck an engine in that car with a lame single stage vtec. it is not the high revving top end banshee that people normally associate with vtec engines. the svt was widely regarded as the superior car. although, if you are going to spend 16k on a used car why not look into an 02 or 03 wrx??

I don't think I've ever seen a review where the that gen Civic did better than the SVT.

I know you said you like the hatch's as do i, but the '99-'00 Si's are the best ones, im my opinion, if you were looking at performance and mods. We work on plenty of Hondas too and the b16 is just such a good engine. Not to mention, those two years hold their value pretty well.

I have been researching 2002+ WRX's, and for what you get (227hp, 217tq, AWD, intercooled turbo) they seem like they're definetly worth the money. Now I just have to look into the reliability of them...

A lot of Honda people (myself included) strongly dislike the styling of the Si you're thinking about. Many refer to it as the Odyssey SI, as it resembles a shrunk-in-the-wash mini-van. The biggest dig against it (other than styling) is the lack of revs supported by the KA20 in it. It's a 200+ hp engine SEVERELY detuned. As cliche as it is, I'd take a 92-98 Civic hatch with either a B18 or a KA20 transplanted into it for the same cash as you'd lay out for the 2.0 Si. The most current Civic is a different story, but it's more money and not available in a hatch. For the same money, if you can find one, I'd look at a VW Golf - either GTI or a non-GTI 1.8T sedan (very rare w/ MTX, but they do exist). Upgrade the suspension from the VW mush and drop ~$1K into select mods and you've got a great handling 180+ WHP hatch.

Now that the base WRX comes with a 2.5, I can't see myself being willing to settle for a 2.0, regardless of the price.

Oh and whatever you do, don't get an 04.
