Question Playboy

Has anyone read this months Playboy? In the Q & A section a guy from Maryland asked if it was bad for the transmission to down shift to slow down when comming to a red light. I got the impression from the responder that it was horrible for the tranny. Is it? I never heard that it was bad and I've never had a problem with my transmission... *knock on wood*

its not bad for it if you do it right, just like its not bad for your tranny if you accelerate correctly. good clutchwork and timing is all it takes to keep that tranny in good shape.

It's just extra wear on the clutch, no harm is done to the tranny. But who actually reads the articles in playboy? j/k

It's not necessary most of the time - if you're just going in a straight line and coming to a stop at a red light, there's really no reason to downshift. I know, I know, I do it too a lot of times but I do try to avoid doing it when I know there's not a need to be in a certain gear. It saves wear on the clutch, and the stuff like synchro's in the transmission. I don't subscribe to Playboy but I have to admit that the issues I've seen, the articles were the last thing I was looking at.

I downshift when coming to a stop, but not to initially slow the car down. I downshift as the rpm's and mph fall, never know the light may go to green before you come to a complete stop.

I did not know that Playboy offered anything other than just pics of naked women. Weird...

Actually my wife reads them more than I do. It kinda like a Maxim or Stuff with naked airbrushed women.
