100k 2002 SVTF Ok?

I currently drive a 2000 Miata, but it is too small, so I'm looking for something at least as peppy, with good handling. The SVT Focus appears to fill that bill, and I found one with about 100k that I could buy for $6k. I'm figuring with that many miles it's been all highway, so it should not be too worn yet. I have a backup vehicle, but I also don't want to be working on it every week.

Anyone have high mileage SVTs? How are they doing? Should I check it out or just forget it?

Thanks.

6k for 100k seems a little on the high side to me.

Thats less than half that what I paid for my 04, granted that was a year ago and with 1/4 the miles.

There may be a few people on this board with that many miles, but not very many. I can recall a few people sounding off with over 60k, but for the most part out SVTs are pretty new.

Without giving it too much thought (I'm at work atm), the normal SVT stuff (DSI switch, clutch/flywheel) should apply, as well as maintenance items which should be taken care of later in the car's life (should be on the 2nd set of brake pads, soon to be 3rd, timing belt is overdue if not done, plugs/wires/filters). I'm sure I full list of those items could be found online, I'll see if I can dig it up.

To answer your question I'd look into it, I dont have a real good reason to believe my SVT is gonna explode at 100k miles, and 6k is a decent price if its still in good shape.

100k miles in 4 years is DOUBLE the national average.... I would look for one with lower milage if it was me.

I only have 23k on my 03 SVTF

Someone bought it before I could look at it. Not meant to be.

My thoughts on that many miles on a one owner car; It's likely been a highway car that saw little abuse. I'd rather 100k non abused miles than 50k thrashed miles.

I'm not sure what I'd do. Obviously at 100k miles, many of the wear components could/should be replaced.

Things that I'd look into -
Clutch/Tranny - could also drop in a Quaife
Suspension - put in a nice coilover suspension
Engine - I'd think of rebuilding/beefing it up, however with that many miles I'd probably think about doing a Cobra motor swap - which would take care of most of the wear items that I'd be worried about!
