dont know what to do....

Ok well I'm kind of unhappy with my focus. I mean I like the looks of it, the way it handles, the decent mpg, but.....I absolutely hate my automatic , having power nothing, and its just too damn slow. I've been thinking alot lately and have two options. 1) Get rid of the focus and get something within the same price range. 2) Deal with it and keep it until I graduate college in a couple years and get a good job and then hopefully get my dream car like a 350, a subie, or 05+ mustang. I'm really thinking about just trying to get rid of my car and get something else. The only thing is I wonder how much of a hit I would take. I mean I'm only making like $60 a month payments on the thing to pay off the loan I took for it. I got it from a dealer my dad knew so apperently I paid what he paid at the auction for it which was $6200 or closer to 7k after everything. I did a blue book on my car and its at about $6200 in good condition with 52k miles. I would love to mod it, but I don't want to spend as much $$$ as other people with manuals and have less to show for it. So if I were to get rid of mine and either get another focus with an mtx or some other car in the price range, is it worth it? And if it is what other than the foci would be worth buying in my price range?

The BIGGEST mistakes of my life were trading cars too often. Keep it, pay it off, drive the pee out of it. Don't mod it. Put every dollar you would put into modding it into the bank. Before you know it (3-5 years or so) you'll be able to get that dream car. Patience (sp?) grasshopper.

I'm 42, learn (and prosper) from my mistakes.

i feel for you, im at the same point in my life with the focus. i have just a few (2) years of college left and graduating with a degree. but for now i am stuck with the focus and seeing how im noting going to be getting a new car for a few years so i figured that i would make the car into my image of what my dream car would be. i just bought some new wheels that make the car have a completly different look and now im looking into buying a suspension kit. my dream car would be the infinity G35, scub wrx.

yeah i love/hate my focus...its an auto...its slow...only cuz its an auto..although its pretty fast at the same time..body kit is falling apart, wish i could sell it , but i wouldnt get very much with that crappy body kit...so would need new body kit already. but if i do that i might as well keep it, but it would still be slow...not rich . not enough patience to wait that long with a car i'm unhappy with . im in limbo right now.

wait. Keep the car you have, and wait.

There are going to be a THOUSAND unforeseen things come up while you are in college and rigth after you graduate. I was in the EXACT same situation as you. Stuck with a 1996 Ford Excort LX, ATX. I liked the look, it was economical, and did the job. Sure i always wanted damn near EVERY other car i saw, but, there were more important things going. college is one of them.

aside from the money, the car. you don't need a nice car. what you need, is LESS time at work, and MORE money to go on trips and experience things you might not be able to later.

I waited 5 years, and just a month ago, bought the car I had had my eye on for almost the entire time, a FocusSVT. Since i've graduated, and started working for myself, i can easily afford it, and for once REALLY enjoy my car, without it taking away from other aspects of my life.

trust me, i know. it SUCKS. but, for now worry about other things that are more important and more fun. take some roadies, go to the bar with friends, save up and go overseas. Then, after you've graduated, give yourself what you deserve, that new STi.

good luck mate

LMAO.. 4 months ago i was driving a 1995 escort LX with an auto.. it was the slowest POS car!!! Man i hated that car...it couldnt go 65 mph against a strong wind without downshifting!

Im a student, but i also commute about 140 miles a day to school. I had zero confidence in my car making the drive 5 days a week much longer, so i bit the bullet and bought a 06 focus.

I say, if you think you can afford it, screw what everyone else says, buy a new car if you want one.

Hey thanks for all the feedback guys. I think I'll just bite my lip and stick with what I have. It's economical, and in a couple years it'll be paid off. So it only makes sense to just keep it and maybe do some more minor modding. And like you said SVT_Clarity, by keeping it I'll just have more money and time to spend with my buds my last couple years of college. Then after I graduate and get a steady job I'll be able to afford the car that I want without worrying about having enough money for beer on the weekend, lol. Thanks again guys for your advice!
