I just got a speeding ticket!

BAH!

I just got a speeding ticket. I need some advice to what exactly I should do...

Heres the story: I was coming from a 25 mph zone to a 35 zone going downhill so I just let myself coast up to speed. I was less than 100 yards from the speed limit sign (actually about 3 car lengths approximation) and this cop drives by, turns on his lights, and pulls me over.

He said I was doing 40 in a 25, which I was hovering at about 37ish (between 35 and 40). He gave me a ticket for 34 in a 25.

Now what exactly can I do about it. I was so close to the sign it isn't even funny. Should I go to court and plead with the judge, or should I just pay the fine and super high insurance rates?

I'd plead with the judge, because you were so close to the sign. I'd be pissed if I was in your shoes. Sorry that happened to you, and good luck.

why super high insurance? is this your first ticket? i'd be kinda glad that he didn't write the ticket for 40 like he said you were going. . .

I just had to jump through hoops to get my insurence rates to about 1/2 of what they were (from 1400 to 700), and this is my first ticket.

You'll actually be "plea"ing with the district atternory, unless they have an axe to grind they generally like to avoid going to court. You may even get off without points or an insurance increase

if its your first offense, and if there wasn't an accident, its highly likely they'll bargain with you. And if you plea there shouldn't be any court costs involved.

A lot of people plead guilty for one reason or another, only 3% or something fight it. besides "No one likes a quitter"

should have taken a picture at the scene! go back and snap one bring it in when you fight it.

only goos comes from this-
a)you postpone paying the fine fore about 2 months
b)they cut half of it off and do or don't talk with insurance
c)they cut it out all together

don't sweat it dude. just be polite when you fight it I'm sure they will let you slide, if not pay the $20 court fee go to court a second time then they will more than likely drop it for you plus the secodn time is when the cop has to show. and if you show the picture then he will probly be embaressed.

it's common sense, does a speed limit start after a sign? well then how could you read the sign if you're past it? just be logical.

this is what you do (I heard this from a cop)

Tell them that you want all the paperwork that that cop had calibrated that exact speed gun that morning, say you want the cop to write out a full report in detail about how far from the sign you were as well as every other detail of the event, and also say you want them to have the cop show all of his paperwork certifiing him to use that speed gun properly.

75% of the time, the cop will just say screw that, and they will drop it.
