3rd Gear Grind....

Ok, so I've grinded my gears a few times in 2nd and 3rd gear at normal speeds. Then tonight I was racing my friend and I shifted from 2nd to 3rd at 6k and grinded my gears. Is this really bad for my transmission or am I still ok? I've only grinded my gears about 6 times total, and that was 2 when learning and 3 when my girlfriend drives plus tonight. Tonight was the worst however and now I'm worried because I was shifting at 6k rpms.

Grinding is never good, but I guess it wont kill your tranny. Just make sure you make a habit of depressing the clutch all the way before shifting.

i have the same problem and i've been told a couple things. synchros going bad, or clutch not being depressed fully. take it into the shop and have them look at it for "mysterious" grinding noises every few times you shift. they might just find something that would be covered under the power train warranty. i did and i got my whole clutch system replaced, 3 times. and guess what now? i'm gettign a new car because it did it three or more times according to the lemon law. better be safe than sorry. hope that helps. just out of curiousity if a car is a right drive is teh tranny gearing reversed? i never could find that out. like is 1st gear in the top left or right?

try switching out the stock tranny fluid for full synthetic, i was having all kinds of problems with shifting into third (grinding even when the clutch was fully depressed, would have to jam it into gear, and it was only getting worse) When i put the synthetic in that all went away and i haven't grinded a gear since. plus it makes shifts a lot smoother in the winter time, but in CA i guess that doesn't matter much.

the foci are already coming with synthetic mineral oil in the trannys from the factory so be careful mixing other aftermarket fluids

RHD shift pattern is the same as LHD, just as if you were driving from your passenger seat! Rented a car went I went back 'home' to England a few years back, shifting with your left hand doesn't take long to get used to, but driving through interesections on the wrong side when tired takes some planning!
