I Finally test drove an SVTF today

I finally got a chance to test drive an SVT Focus and it was awesome...to say the least! CD Silver..HIDs..Red mesh interior and Sunroof..not to mention the power goodies that my stock ZX3 does not have. The Zetec motor did not feel very strong until about 3000 RPMs. I am used to my 2.3 where I have enough torque at 1800 RPMS in second to climb a steep hill. But the dealer let me punch it through first all the way to third on a long stretch of straight away. I took it up to 5000 and the thing just pulled like crazy!!! I was up to 42 in first gear!! I was shocked that a 2.0 litre 6 speed would do over 40 in first gear. Anyways I think my car is more practical than the SVT but if I had to make the choice all over again of purchasing my car brand new for 14000 or buying this SVT w/30000 on it for 12500 I would probably go for the SVT. It's just a solid, well packaged and fun car to drive and the headlights are incredible!

Does anybody know exactly what the Special Vehicles Team did to the Zetec engine to crank out more power??

Actually they really start to cook about there , you should have taken it up to 7k . Power wise well i drive mine to and from cali this weekend going up baker grade and cajon pass . Pretty steep freeway road for a long time , well i left it in 6th with the cruise on at 77mph and dodged the slow moving cars.

yeah I took it up to about 6500 RPMs before I shifted but I really noticed it started to pull at about 5000. I took an S2K out a while back and, while the S2K obviously pulled harder in the higher RPMs...the SVT felt as though it had more torque...I wish SVT would tune the new ZX3 w/a 2.3..I bet they could squeeze 200 HP out of it and we'd have a car to compete with the new Civic SI...

As for what was done, go forth with thy search button and thy Google. Or, just check here. http://www.myfordfocus.com/svt/

The short version is (deep breath) cams pistons rods cylinder head dual-state intake manny exhaust starting at header and alltheway back (another breath) pumped through an expensive and sometimes finicky German 6 speed with really deep gearing.

In my book, the car is about 8/10ths good. A few tweaks could make me happy with it indefinitly, until it breaks. As is, I'm still on the lookout for the car that really fits me like a glove.
