Thinking About Getting a Yaris

My dad just bought a Toyota Yaris liftback for his business to run around in. I drove it the other day and its not a bad little car. I was thinking about getting one, and trading in the Focus. I threw some numbers together and I could get it for about only $12-15 more a month. The Yaris gets like 10mpg better in the city, which I do about 85% of my driving. Also I would get Toyota quality, now I'm not saying Fords are bad because between me, my dad, and my mom we own 5 Fords (05 Explorer, 04 F150, 05 Focus, 05 Mustang GT, 05 Work Van). They are all great, but it just seems Toyota has a little better quality because we also own a Yaris and Tundra.

The car I would be looking at would be a 3dr. Liftback Yaris with the 5 speed manual, fully optioned. The car is rated at 106hp, but is pretty zippy. The Yaris gets 34mpg in the city and 40mpg on the highway. With gas the way it is, and if I can get better gas milage without having to pay hardly anymore a month, its looking pretty appealing. I would get a black one and make it look similar to this:

What are your thoughts on it?

I'm gonna admit it, I like the Yaris. I like the exterior way more overall than the Fit's, and the price is better though. Interior the Honda wins though.

Why don't you buy a Festiva? Oh, thats right, Ford doesn't have a B-segment entry. Brilliant.

Fit is a much better car..

pick up the most recent issues of Card and Driver Mag and Automobile mag (or go to their websites)...

Also Edminds has driven both by now... Fit a by quite a bit superior to the Yaris - more space, better suspension, better shifter, better interior, better engine...

a memorable cquote from one of those articles is " Yaris is a good replacement for the echo, but not a great replacement for the echo"

the Fit might not look that hot on the outside... but let's be honest neother does Focus.. and we bought it because it is a great car.

Get a Fit if you want a small city car..

I agree with Igor. The Fit is a bit goofy-looking, but it's handling is supposed to be top-notch (makes a mini seem clumsy).

At least test drive a few cars before deciding- they both get excellent mileage.

Ford should have a subcompact- even if it's a rebadged korean car again, they should have one.

No use crying about it though. If they can't sell you the car you want, buy a different brand.

honestly, i dont think youll be doing any good. For one its going to be slower then your focus, and two the extra money your paying per month, is probably the difference your paying at the pump. Figure out how much money your really saving, im surprised no one brought this up.

One of the main reasons I started looking at the Yaris is because I saw I could get almost what I paid for my car if I got rid of it now. For driving a new car for one year, and barely losing any money on is pretty good. Now if I decide to wait, I'm sure the value of the Focus will go way down. And I'm really not concerned about speed because my Focus is slow as hell, and maybe its me, but the Yaris doesnt seem much if any slower than my Focus. I don't know what to do.

^^I got 11k for my 5month old 05 Zx3 ATX, SES .... the most I was offered was $11.7

Just FYI

And while I understand why you want to get rid of it now - that was my reasoning to getting rid of it so fast.. before the gap grows even wider - but do not get Yaris just on first impression..

And do not get me wrong... my mom had the 1st gen Yaris as her company car and I liked it wuite a bit .. it is a smart car.. but there are better ones out there... and Fit is much better at this point...
