Corolla or Focus... I cant decide

Looking to buy one of these soon and dump my gas guzzler.: '06 Focus SE 4 or '06 Corolla CE

Both are automatics. Don't need other options & am not concerned about resale values.

I have driven a newer Corolla but have not had a chance to drive a Focus.
The Corolla was smooth, but a bit noisy and struggled somehwat under load.

The Focus can be bought for over $2500 less. The gas mileage on the Corolla looks like it averages around 30-32 (from researching Corolla boards). The Focus gas mileage appears to be less.

Any thoughts? Is the Corolla really $2500+ better?

You're posting this on a Focus forum, so most people are going to say focus. And I'm one of them. The focus handeling is amazing for it's class, the SES would have considerably less body for than the SE that you're looking at, it has a 21mm rear sway bar. The gas mileage varies alot depending on how you drive, if I drive hard it can go under 20mpg, on the highway it can top 35mpg. Personally I would go for the Focus, and it is alot cheaper. The Corolla might be a bit higher quality though.

yeah my friends mom had a corolla, she didnt like it much so she got a solara instead..
both of them are realiable, nice looking fairly equal cars... go with what is most comfortable for you.. i love my focus, i have bought 2 of them, if that says anything. the focus will handle better and be faster..again it just depends on what you are looking for in a car.
good luck and let us know when you get your focus...i mean car

buy the focus and support the domestic auto industry. the newer focus are very reliable and most of the bugs are out of it.

Seriously? You're asking this question on a FORD FOCUS forum?

I'm really losing my faith in humanity.

umm... i would say focus for the reason that i have one and you got to support our econ
but also remember that if u buy a toyota and something breaks its going to cost u more than if you buy a ford part and also since your not concerned with resale value your best choice
is focus and nicer choice and best choice and if you dont buy the foci ill hunt you down and
and destroy your car j/k good luc not dat you need it since the choice is obvious

well I will say it this way.. if you want to pay extra 2500 over the Focus get a Mazda3 or Civic make the money count in a better car.. Really the Coroall is as Crappy and tired as the Focus... Focus actually has better technology under the plastic and metal, because it was so far ahead of everything else in 2000.. Corolla is excercise in simplicity and cheapness, and if it were sold under any other brand it would have been dead in the water.

I say skip the corolla for ANY other compact... if you want high mileage - get a base civic. If you want cheap fun to drive - Focus ... Fun to drive and "luxury" -Mazda3

Corolla has nothing to touch even Spectra, let alone Focus, Mazda3 or Civic.

It depends what your looking for, i wanted a sporty economy car and test drove many. THe best one that seamed to fit me that was in my price range was a 2005 SES ZX5. i love my car! its faster than most low end 4 cyl. cars it handles great and the interior was much nicer than alot of the others such as CHevy, Dodge, Toyota, so on. If your looking for a spunky car dont get the carolla, they are alright but wont compare to a focus ses.
