I drove a Mazda 5 today....

My brother just purchased a 2006 Mazda 5, not sure if anyone's familar with the 5 but it's a mini van looking thing with a 2.3 Duratec engine which puts out 157 ponies, after driving it around I have to say I'm so impressed with Mazda that I have to test drive a Mazda 3 now. Build quality is all there, the interior look's fresh and upscale, Leather felt plush and rich, the rear dvd player was a nice touch. I loved the 17 inch star wheels with the low profile toyo proxies tires. Unlike the 2.3 in the ST, the Mazda 2.3 version sounded a lot quieter, anyways mad props to mazda, I will admit I was slightly disappointed sitting in my car after driving the 5.Has anyone else experienced the 5 yet?

heres a couple of pics

Hmm, I've never found my Duratec to be loud at ALL (stock anyway). Do you mean when you were inside though? So maybe they have better insulation against road noise, it being a mini-van?

Anyway, Mazda > Ford right now, I think. Really what does Ford have to offer against things like MS3 or 6? Mazda however doesn't have a Mustang or anything like that, but for the sport compact market they sweep Ford under the rug, IMHO. So it's a good thing Ford controls them I guess! but if they threw a bone to the blue oval a little more it'd be nice.

I drove the mazda5 as a loaner when my mazda3 was in service..

I found it to be very satisfactory car.

if i had need for 7 seats I am driving one right now.. MAzda deserves mad props to for managing to keep the body under control and maintain the fun to drive factor in such a tall vehicle... Mazda5 is really the only competition to the Caliber right now.

your pics don't do it justice... it looks better from the front

Yeah those look pretty sweet. If more companies made soccer mom cars look like that maybe nobody would buy SUV's anymore.

yea. mazdas have a more insulated interior, the amount of road noise is very small, great cars.

Nice looking ride. They had quite a few of them on the lot when I picked up my Miata. I sat in it, check it out but did not drive it. That would be my #1 pick if I were in the market for a people-hauler.

I'm not too crazy about the tail lights, but I like the rest of it. I think this is a very attractive and affordable vehicle for young familes. I would drive one, and that is coming from a mini-van hater.
