Try and buy a chevy and get treated badly

My wife and I went to a local chevy dealer to look at a new Cobalt SS. She picked the car because it was in her price range and equipped pretty well. The salesman was friendly but spoke to my wife like she was a dainty little women (example "It doens't have too much power for you does it baby?" ). We test drove the car and liked it pretty well....shifter could use some refinement and ride was a little notchy. When it came time to negotiate out came the sales manager. When I asked him for a copy of the invoice I thought he was going to bite his tounge off he chomped down so hard. He was extremely reluctant to bring it out and show it to us. I had to ask him three times and each time he insisted he had nothing to hide. When he brought it out it wasn't even an actual invoice but just a little cheesy computer print out. A friend of mine works for a car dealer and has shown me countless actual invoices and none of them looked like this one. After he showed us the invoice he told me he would go a couple hundred over invoice price which was not bad but we wanted to see if we could do better. When I asked him to keep a copy or to give me a written quote that I could take with me, I think it aggrevated him. He said that he couldn't do that and thats fine if thats how he wants to do business. I told them no to the car and my wife and I got up and started to walk out the door. In a condescending tone he bellowed "Come back when you can afford it.", I turned around and was going to ask him for his supervisor (I really wanted to pop him one but in this day and age thats not how stuff works). My wife grabbed my arm and said come on lets go. Its no surprise General Motors may go under, if they continue to treat customers this way. My wife was publicly humilated and spent part of the night crying to herself. Just thought any prospective GM buyers might like to know this. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Unfortunately there are still "old-school" people selling cars...its sad, you totally did the right thing by walking out. Believe me, someone out there WILL want your business and will treat you and your Wife with respect. Morons like that give those of us who earn our living fair and square and professionally, a bad name.

Good choice in walking out...that's a poor excuse for customer service. I would find out who the dealer manager is and send him/her a letter. Also a letter to GM's customer service dept wouldnt hurt either.

Believe me, I felt like stomping some major a**, but in this day and age people sue too easily and I've got too much that I've worked too hard for to lose over something stupid like that.

same thing i had.
while car searching this past time when i ended up getting a focus, i had also been looking at cavalers. the dealer gave me a written quote on an LS SPORT. when the car came in, and i went to get it, it was actually an LS with the sport appearence package. the only difference is the ls sport has a suspension, and the LS with the aooearence just had the body kit. i said i want what you told me i was getting an LS SPORT for XX money. first they said they didnt write down ls sport, it was just ls. when i asked to see the copy of the price sheet they gave me, it was conveniently "misplaced". so i go home and start digging and find the actual sheet that the manager wrote "LS SPORT" "$XXX" and i was like what now biT****. then they just said they couldnt give it to me for that price. worst thing for them was my stepdad buys a new deisel truck from them every 6 months. they didnt know he was my stepdad, and he hasnt bought a truck from them since.

GM people SUCK

All car dealers are like this. However, GM has been by far the worst most notably Pontiac. GM's days are numbered.

wow yeah , i would have told him off...that makes me mad just hearing it how could someone say that? i bought a cobalt last year and the guy i talked to was pretty nice to me, i went back to him a few times when i was looking for a new car( its like one/two dealerships...its forrest chevrolet, and then the forrest used right next to it) my mom knows the manager of the used lot pretty well, she taught his daughter, so we asked him to help us find someone so we got someone from the used lot to help me buy a new car lol. he was really nice and knocked off a few hundred, and i ended up getting a really good deal on it.
4.9 financing for 6 years, 250$ a month , after rebate, which was 1000 dollars.
