Toyota news... 94mpg PriusIII and next corolla..

COROLLA
-------------------------------------------
Next Corolla on Ice

In 2006 Toyota will release the replacement for the current world best seller Corolla. Disguised prototypes of the new model have already been sighted in various places of the world.

The next generation Corolla will be an evolution of the present model, and it is sitting on Toyota’s recently developed 300N/MC platform. The Corolla will be furthermore the base for a number of new models by Toyota, including the next RAV4, the Avensis and Previa.

The Corolla will get also a newly developed range of direct-injection petrol engines and a selection of fresh diesels. The car will again be available as a three and five door model, while a new Verso will not be out before another four years time.

The photos are showing a prototype on a frozen lake in Northern Scandinavia.

Obviously this is Euro Spec.. here is current EUDM Corolla:

----------------------------------------
PRIUS
----------------------------------------
LeftlaneNews reports on a british report citing a next getn Prius getting 94mpg (US gallons).

Next Prius to offer 94 mpg?
The next Toyota Prius will offer an astonishing 113 mpg, according to a report by the U.K.’s AutoExpress magazine. (Note: 113 mpg in the U.K. is equal to 94 mpg here in North America). “The whole electrical system has been redesigned to improve economy” said a Toyota engineer was quoted as saying. “We are working on a prototype that runs solely on the electric motor in slow traffic, but switches to engine and motor drive when higher speeds are needed.” The 0-62 mph time will also be improved by more than a second, according to the report, bringing it to well under 10 seconds. Much of the improvement can be attributed to the use of lithium-ion batteries instead of nickel-hydride units. The lithium-ion batteries are smaller, lighter, and have greater electrical output.

That pic of the Corolla shows some Calibur-like lines in the rear end, imo.

That Corolla looks much better than the Calibur, IMO.

looks decent to me. Thats crazy almost 100mpg, but who knows if thatll be true considering the 60 mpg the previous one was suppose to get was like 20mpg off. Maybe this hatch corolla will make ford reconsider and definitly keep a focus hatch in their lineup.

hmmm...never liked Corollas...never liked Toyotas (I'm not saying they are bad cars - just my personal pref.) but I must say that the previous Corolla was much nicer to me.
