Ford Fusion Lags in Crash Tests

As far as I'm concerned, this is pretty inexcusable on a brand new design. They HAD to know these test would be done, why not ensure that the Fusion was up to the challenge? This type of oversight is why Ford and GM are in trouble today.

Ford also announced that starting in Sept. 06, all Fusion/Milan/Zephyrs will have SAB and Head Curtain Airbags made standard. A day late and dollar short, if you ask me.

LInk to IIHS:
http://www.iihs.org/ratings/ratingsbyseries.aspx?id=561

They messed up left leg protection, in frontal crash, everything else was good.

In side impact. yeah the side airbags will help., but the B pillar needs to be stronger ...

Honestly I am surprised IIHS only now tested the 06 model...

and yeah it was stupid of ford to offer ABS and SAB as options .... and if they did they should have paid for double testing like GM does ... with ahd without the SAB... G6 scored similarly as Fusion, but they tested it with the SAB as well and fared nicely there... now Pontiac has an answer when somoene claims the car is not safe... Ford doesn't

This is not a small car. As well, the mazda 6 derived chassis fared no better in side impact tests. Ford knew. Looks like they were waiting it out as long as they could get away with it. Glad I'm not a current owner. I'd be pissed to find out what's standard now.

Yep - so now the current Fusion owners will be upset. The current Zephyr owners are already upset because Ford is changing the name of that car next year and giving it a bigger engine (3.5L). Why can't they do it right when they initially launch a new vehicle, instead of making people feel like it's stupid not to wait 2 or 3 years? Even with the Five Hundred - want more engine? Just wait a couple of years...

Wellfor one the 3.5 was not finished when they launched the cars.. but yeah it worked out funky..

I am sure the price will go up with the new standard features and options though
