Focus american version

Mayby some can answer this for me. I've owned a few fords ove the last 10 years, namley the Escort (91), Contour (96) and now a 00 focus. I really startid getting interested in Fords after I bought my Contour, cause at that time I found out that the Mondeo in Europe (European Contour) was so much nicer, and sportier than the american version contour. Why is it that when Ford produces a nice car in Europe that would compete with so many of our american bmw's, VW's ect, that they water the car down and strip all the good stuff away, like interior, bumpers, plastics unpainted, headlights (HID), side marker lights. wheele's, interior, ect. I was really upset that Ford discontinued the Contour in 2000, I think they made a big mistake, cause there was an entire body style change in 01 that would have transformed the Contour into a very luxury, attractive European car for the American market. The Mondeo in Europe is the #1 selling car, what the heck is Ford doing to our European designed american cars? However, I do think the the Focus has kept more of the European flair than the Contour did, so I do have to give Ford the credit for that. Also alot of the EU Focus parts are interchangeable, whereas with the Contour they were not.

because someone at ford's an idiot and thinks that nobody wants a high end compact or small car? they think that if you have money, you should buy a navigator?

why do you have two threads on the same topic?

here is what I replied to the other one:
The shot answer is that untill 2000 there was no money in compacts in the US... the market did not value it AT ALL ... Compacts in the US were the trash cars you buy if you cannot afford anything bigger.

Now the longer answer is, it has changed and Ford missed the boat... the new MkII Focus was deemed unfit for US back in 2002 or 3.. now Ford seems to realize it was a mistake and is supposedly is scrambling to fix it...

The times have changed and as Mazda3 proves there is great demand for great upscale compacts... but this was not the case in 2000.

I know.... I wonder myself...

My explanation.. (which is biased by my admiration of Bill Ford) is that when Fod was put in as the CEO, he wanted to shake thngs up.. and he did, but the board let him do that only overseas., never here in the US. He turned around Mazda, Ford of Americas (South America), the PAG (Volvo, Land Rover, Aston Martin and Jaguar)... but did not have hold on ford North America..... Now, last October he finally got his team in charge there. Mark Fields - the president was previously in charge of Mazda (where he did wonders) and PAG (also did wonders), and Anne Somethingorantoher who was previously in charger and turned around the South American division. They took over last October there have already been some changes.. and others are rumored... (the biggest change up to date is, that the original closure plan called only for 4 plants and about 8k employees fired - Fields changed that to the more realistic 14plants and 30k employees)

But how much this is really true?.. I don't know .. but that is my story I tell everyone who asks
