Just got a Focus...

Hey everyone, this is my first post.
I just got a 2002 Focus Sedan SE. I'm looking to find out a little bit more info about it. This forum is a lot bigger than the mazda626 forum I used for my last car. I'm not sure where to look for info about y car.

I would like to find out the options that come with the SE and the engine specs. I won't even be seeing this car until later in the week.

I've checked around and the aftermarket parts seem to be geared toward the zx3 model. would most engine parts fit in the 4 door model (zx4?)? I assume that the exterior parts would not fit since the body is very different.

My firt mod I would like to do is a CAI. Which brand is prefered? I noticed on ebay alot of people are trying to pass off short ram's as CAI, will there be any problems I run into while installing (for ex. moving the battery)? I havn't had a chance to look under the hood. if someone could post a pic of the engine so I could study it, that would be great.

Thanks, and I hope to find alot of usefull info here.

welcome!!

i believe that for the most part any engine mods that go on the zx3 should fit on the sedan as long as its the same engine. For u i think ur either gonna have the zetec dohc or the spi sohc. but i dont know the focus facts so i could b wrong.

the fav brand for cai is either aem or volant, around the same price i believe both pretty good. for a pic of the engine bay check in my gallery, i think i have a few. i have the zetec so it may not b the same engine that u have.

i hope i helped and like doug said, the search button is ur friend

Most of the SRI's will bolt up just fine and the filter will be where the stock airbox is, usually. Not a true CAI, but a lot of people shy away from those because they can suck up water pretty easy. That's why I plan on getting a Volant, I'll take safety over maybe 1/2 hp. You may want to look into this issue more to make a decision for yourself.

That should be a good mod to start off with, though. I haven't done that yet, but I have a high-flow filter right now with a 65mm throttle body... that will really set the engine off, so there's mod number 2 for ya. Unless you would rather have something to show off, then you could do exhaust.

What you should do is ID your engine and check out the performance sections on this site. Just pop the hood and check if it's a 16V Zetec or the SPI if you don't know yet, and there's a lot of good information in the respective sections. Good luck.

Welcome !! Yes, most parts will fit your car just fine. As above, lets figure out if you have a zetec first.

wow, took me a while to figure out the quote button is UNDER the post you want to quote... never seen that before....

my question about your CAI is how far down is your filter? i looks like it goes straight down behind the valve cover, but wouldn't that be a high heat area? or does it turn out towards the wheel well? or does it get closer to the ground to suck up the air under the car?

I guess I should do some more plannign before I pick up a CAI maybe if I buy fenders with a cut away I could place it near the fenders or a functional hood scoop might help as well. The engine bay looks a bit crowded. I hope it's not too hard to install this!

but your bay looks clean as a whistle, nice car!

and thanks to everybody for welcoming me, you have a great site. I'm a little bit more excited now to own a focus, I was honestly hoping for an accord but this focus might be some fun.
