More GM: Incentive relapse and 07 Aveo crash failure

After an older thread where it was noted that the new SUV's are already being sold at invoice and lower.. there is more bad news for GM:

------------------------------------
INCENTIVE RELAPSE
------------------------------------

Well today DetNews reports on GM returning to up to $2000 of rebates ($1200 customer $700 dealer) for some of their slow selling models.

It lasted all but two months for them to relapse....
On a side note DCX passed Ford for the second spot in value of incentives per sale.

-----------------------------------
AVEO CRASH FAILURE
-----------------------------------

E-NCAP - The EU version of NHSTA just pretty much failed the upcoming redesigned Chevrolet Aveo. In a test similar to IIHS "frontal offset- structural rigidity test" at about 40mph.

The steering wheel intruded into the cabin was likely to cause severe chest injury to the driver, producing 1.5 star (2 stars with one crossed) rating.

he current Aveo had decent raiting from ENCAP, NHSTA as well as IIHS... the redesign is coming to USA and Canada in summer 2006 and has not been tested by the US agencies.

While the differences in evaluation between the EU and US agencies are signficant, there is some expectation the new Aveo will do quite poorly in the US tests as well.

-------------------------------

This is beyond the quite probable failure of GM's supply chain in the comming weeks (also was a thread here)

I have always thought the aveo has been a small death trap...but that's my opinion.

Yep - no surprise that the Aveo failed the European crash standards. But NHTSA gave it 5 stars, and that's all we stupid Americans need, right?

Oops - forgot that this was a new design. Nevermind. It looks like they just put new sheetmetal on the turd.

UPDATE:

It seems Ford might resist this time around...
For March its promotion program is set to be a push of Mercury and Lincoln through Lease deals..mostly the promotions will focus on Zephyr and Mariner, because apparently they have been succesful in bringing in customers from other brands.

So far (and it is March 1st) there were no March rebate programs announced on any Ford vehicles.

BTW get down to GM: UP TO $6000 on 2006 models and $8000 on 2005.. oh man.

YAY Ford.. do not screw this up.. PLEASE!!!

Too bad leases suck. No equity in the vehicle. But with Ford-L-M residuals so low compared to import makes, maybe that's not an issue for many buyers used to the quick depreciation on luxury cars - especially domestics.
