Duplicate Keys

Hi all,

I just brought a used 2002 SE Wagon which I love. It has the remote keypad entry and I need to make a duplicate set of keys and I would like another Keypad. Is it necessary I get this through the "Stealer"?

Thanks in Advance,
Ronnie

if you only have one set of keys then I believe you do because the dealer has to reprogram your car for the new keys. If you have both sets of the original keys then no you don't. As for the keypad entry, I don't know.

Instead of starting another post I'm going to hi-jack this one. Does $100 sound right to get a key and have it programmed from a dealership?

Ronnie-I got 2 remotes for my Ranger of ebay, and all I had to do is turn the ignition from off to on like 5 times and press any button on the remote and it was programmed. I don't know if that is the same for all vehicles but it worked on my Ranger.

Hi All:

Thanks for the imput...see www.nvo.com for keys and keypads for the focus.
Looks like programing the remote is a no-brainer (thanks darkhorse) and they are sold on this site for the focus for 23.50. As far as a duplicate key--if you have 2 original keys then you can self-program and get the key cut at a regular locksmith($18.99). If you only have one key then you need to go to a speciality locksmith or the dealer.

Hi All:

I also read a good key tip on-lin a while back.
-Get a key (no chip) for cheap for your focus--it will only open your door and not start the engine. Keep it in your wallet or tape it somewhere on the underbody of the car with ducktape
-Then hide a chip key somewhere in the car.

This way if you lock yourself out you can open the door which the regular key ... fish out the chip key and then whalla -- start the car!

Well, the key still needs to be programmed. Most dealers charge .8 to 1 hour. If you go to some dealers and ask to talk to the tech that does the programming, you may be able to get him to do it on the side. It only takes 15 mins.
