Dammit my wife lost her key

The stealership wants 149 to replace it plus it supposedly has to be towed in to be done. Any cheaper options?

I can get you a key already cut, but the dealer will have to program it.

they wanted $149?!?!?!?!?! DAAAAAAMN. The replacement keys for our Porsche were only $70 apeice, and they were the fancy ones with the lights and stuff in them. They are really ripping you off. B16sir, can't he just get a replacement key, and program it himself, I thought there was something in the manual about programming extra keys.

^^^yea you can do it yourself, you just need one key already programmed and then you copy that program onto another key. 149 bucks is obsured, its a Ford key, not some specially designed key that is laser cut and specific to your vehical only like some luxury cars have.

Try another dealership , the price may go down a bit. You will still pay 70 or 80 bucks though. Do you have a second key at all??

The key should not cost that much. They should cut the key for free when you buy it. I have not looked at the owners manual that close yet. But it was in there for the 01 Escape I use to have, but you needed both keys. You can still try it anyway. You needed put the key in the ingnition and turn it on and off 3 times each. Leaving it in there for I think it was 3 secs each time. In the Escape; it was about how long the chime went when you first turn the key to on. Then do the new key the same way and you are set. But like I said, then you needed both the orginal keys.

The 149 should be with INCLUDED key FOB. 25 bucks for a cut key, but the whole set should be right around 85 with tax though.

Incorrect. You need two keys that start the car in order to reprogram new ones.

$149 is about what a dealership wanted to charge me for a replacement key too. I told them I already had a key, which I got off of ebay for about $15 and had cut by a local hardware shop. The dealership still wanted $85 to program the key. So, they wanted $69 for the key, grrrr.
