Potential Focus Owner with Questions..

Hello All!!

I'm looking into purchasing a hatchback focus to have fun with and use as a daily driver.

I found a blue '02 zx3 for $5500 with 76K miles. My questions for the experts:

1. Is this a good deal?

2. Anyone hit 100k miles without issues?

3. Any common issues I should be looking for?

4. Are there HP & TQ differences between '00 - '06?

5. Duratec vs Zetec, what's the difference and what models used them?

6. Is the SVT engine a completely different engine?

7. Can these cars take a light Turbo or SC application?

Thanks to all who reply!!!

CTS V is an awesome car, having said that, nothing will match up to your expectations. Anyway, anything 02 and up, I believe had just about all previous problems fixed. You would be 2.0 zetec, 120 hpish?? In 05, duratecs replaced the zetec, 130 hp for the 2.0, and 151 hp for the 2.3 found in the ST.

Again somebody correct me if I'm worng, but was it 2004 there was a 2.3 liter engine offered for the first time with somewhere close to 150 horsepower in all focus body styles. In 05 and 06, the 2.3 liter is only available in the ST sedan model. I know you're looking at an 02, but just some more information.

1. mileage is high, but price is good for the mileage
2. i have 42 thousand, and i have an 01
3. there were a few recalls on the early foci, including fuel filter, and other little things
4 yes, if im not mistaken
5 duratec has more horsepower, therefore making number 4 correct, as (if im not mistaken) most, if not all, new foci come with the duratec
5. duratec is a 2.3 liter, zetec is a 2.0 liter, different engines both with unique performance
6. i dont have an svt, and therefore dont know much about it, but from what i understand, it is a zetec motor with different internals, and a few different "bolt-ons"
7. im pretty sure the zetec can handle up to 10 psi without issues, light modding needed of course, before just slapping on a turbo. not sure about duratec motors with turbos, i thinl that the turbos for these are still undergoing testing and whatnot...

have fun!

"You would be 2.0 zetec, 120 hpish?? "

130 to the crank, and around 100 to the wheels

they can take turbo and SC applications pretty well from what ive heard and read, the SVT is a Zetec with forged Connecting rods, Varible cam timing, free flowing head and header. DSI,
Sounds like a a good deal if the car is loaded.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I'm not looking for a HP monster, just something that can hit a corner like it was moving on rails. A twisty terror.

The mileage on teh car I was looking at did seem a bit high. I would be doing mainly highway driving with it.

I've always loved the look of the hatchbacks. I hope to be joining the Focus Family very soon!!
