My first Focus

I Just bought a 2000 Focus ZX3, only 53k miles, runs really good and handles even better. 3 days later its sitting at a repair shop to replace the ignition cylinder. I did a little research afterwards and found that there is many problems with the ignition switch failing with the 00-01 models. I've heard alot of hype over this and there is alot of negative posts on the internet about the ingnition switch. Ford should probally recall this, but I still love my new Focus. Other than the bad ingnition switch I have no other problems. I have registered the car with Ford and want to call them to find out what recalls have been performed on my car and get the ones that havent been done fixed. Glad I found this site, sure I will find much needed information.

Early models were very troublesome. Hope yours works out for you and glad you like your car.

Dealer where I went and bought the car came and towed to there shop and they are gonna fix the ignition/tumbler under warranty, so it cost's me 0 .... i hope this one lasts but seeing that there are problems with the 00-01 ignition switches i will probally have to put a new one in again in about 20k miles. i think i'll try and put some lub in there to keep the tumblers going. anyways, pick my focus up tomorrow. just an fyi, i was quoted $310.00 at a ford dealer here in the Phoenix area to fix this. the key has a chip that has to be programmed. gald my warrany covered it.

Yea dont be surprised if more problems come down the line, but it is good you are aware and do research and such. There are many recalls on the early model foci 00-01 especially on the 00, so make sure all of them are checked and that they were replaced and if not get them replaced. But yea the focus is a good performing car, and the zetec engine is a pretty decent motor.
