Air Filter 2005 Focus ZX3 SE

I have a 2005 Ford Focus ZX3 SE. It has 12,000 miles on it. I went to the dealer to get an air filter and found out it does not have an air filter. It is a module that you replace at 100,000 miles. It cost $350.00 thru the dealer. I also have a 2004 which does have an air filter. Anyone else run into this on the new Focus's. What are the alternatives if any ???

You can go with a new CAI = cold air intake. You will have better performance and some clame better gas milage. $350.00 for a new filter from Ford that is crazy. Just look around on this site. It contains alot of good info on intakes and everything else Focus.

Also you can get a CAI for alot less than the $350.00 Ford wants for one of there paper filters. But I am sure labor is part of that. The filter is located in the drivers side front fender in front of the wheel. And a pain to get to.

2005 Focus ZX3 Air Filter

I did'nt want to change the intake for a cold air intake, because I am not sure what that will do to the map sensor etc.. 100,000 miles sounds good unless you live in the southwest in the United States, and I know it won't go that long here because of the dust and sand. Any ideas ?

Better check again on the 05 Ford Focus. Mine is a late mode 05 and all of the 06's are that way. Went to Napa, Autozone and the dealer. It is crazy.

I heard that. I wish there was a K&N drop in filter for the 05. Some one needs to take out the stock filter and measure it , to see if there is a filter that will fit and replace it. I dont know what Ford was thinking.

It is a sealed box that gets replaced somewhere between 75-100,000 miles. It has a check valve simular to a diesel truck. I wouldnt worry untill you hit 75,000 miles then I would start checking the gauge on the side of the box.

2005 Focus ZX3 SE

You are right about the flow meter similiar to a diesel truck. I saw that. My concern is how amd I going to replace the thing when it needs to be replaced. I have an 04 Focus ZX5 and when I found this out about my 05 I was mad. This has to be one of the dumbest thins Ford has done in recent history !!!
