Ford, GM dealers uneasy about future

Maybe stop marking the hot cars at $5,000 over MSRP price, you money grubbers!

Actually, with the exception of the new Mustang GT, maybe if Ford and GM actually sold cars people wanted to buy this wouldn't be a problem.

I know my next car won't be a Ford and definitely nothing by GM. My SVT Focus has been an amazing car, but since Ford thinks a stodgy looking sedan (Focus ST) is a suitable replacement for this awesome car, my money will go to a manufacture that is not dellusional.

"The industry will sell about 16.8 million vehicles, the same as in 2004 but a far cry from the industry peak of 17.4 million vehicles in 2000."
OK just where are all these cars going? Perhaps the market is reaching the saturation point where there are just too many cars out there for the market to absorb. Think about it, with new cars having increasingly longer lifespans due to improved manufacturing and longer warranties, and a glut of good clean used cars available for substantially less than their MSRP when new, its no wonder sales are flat as my sister in law. I think there is a "ghost fleet" of cars waiting to be sold, sitting on dealer lots. My wife's T&C retailed for well over $40k new, and cost us under $20K, only 4 years old with 78K km (48k miles).

Agreed ^^^ The used car dealers are having it really tough as they are giving the new ones away.

Yup.. My FoFo is llisted used for MORE than when it was new... it is actualy more than my OTD..

I think the boom of CPO and then the reliability and quality of todays cars really does benefit the customer.. I mean my Mazda could have been new.. except for a couple "usage" mark on the inside.. and touched up rock chips o nthe hood. there is nothing wrong with it.. the breaks are like new. tires are like new and I have 5 more years of warranty..

I don't see any reason to ever buy any car brand new. They will never get me to buy one, because no matter what they come out with, a year later the same car will be thousands cheaper.

^^^^true, unless you stumble apon a good find like i did and pick up a new 03 a couple months before the 05s will be released and since its a unpopular color like grabber green the dealer is willing to meet your demands and chop 4k off the price . Yea i dont know its very on fortunate that this is going on, and hopfully they will take a turn for the better....and hopfully for Fords sake Mr. Fields turns the company around. Im not really sure if i think Ford did the right thing with the mustang....i mean they sold a lot even by increasing the MSRP by like 5 grand, but i wonder if they would of made a better profit if they kept them at the supposed 25k that they were going to be out as. But i think ford is starting to head on a better road now, the new fusion and its fellow mecury and lincoln counterpart are doing very well in sales. The new edge shoudl do well too.
