Mazdaspeed3 Euro Specs / Pics released

All you need to know: IT IS FWD

Press Release:

Leverkusen, 13th February 2006. Mazda Motor Corporation will showcase the world premiere of the new high-performance Mazda3 MPS, as well as present the European debut of the Kabura concept vehicle, at the 76th annual Geneva International Motor Show to be held from Tuesday, 28 February through Sunday, 12 March 2006.

New Mazda3 MPS
The flagship of the Mazda3 range, the all-new Mazda3 MPS, will give sports-minded customers outstanding performance coupled with a stylishly sophisticated design and everyday practicality and comfort the Mazda3 line up is known for. Mazda3 MPS is the second model in the Mazda Performance Series, following the Mazda6 MPS launched in Europe a month ago. The car will be called Mazdaspeed Axela in Japan, Mazdaspeed3 in North America and, in other key regions including Europe, Australia and New Zealand, Mazda3 MPS.

Mazda looked to embody the three distinct attributes with the new vehicle: Driving Fun, Ownership Delight and Everyday User Friendly Convenience. With its compact, lightweight body and substantial power generated by its 2.3L MZR DISI TURBO petrol engine, Mazda3 MPS is one of the most powerful high-performance sports compacts with front-wheel drive (FWD) on the road today.

The carís styling pursues a look of strength and solidity in a design that conveys its unmatched dynamic performance at a glance. Mazda3 MPS reflects Mazdaís intention to continue delivering Zoom-Zoom in all its products.

Hey, I have those tires.

AWD would've been nice, but I guess, weight added, or something...

Funny, they took styling cues from the SVTf, in a way

well here is the best I could do on the price...

An official MAzda email to dealerships .. of course.. you are runnig the "dealers are not reliable source" thing.. but this is the best I could do..The price (I was rold by fellow Canadians) is about the level of RSX-S and a little over Neon SRT4...

Maybe they will offer AWD as an option later - I hope so!

That is my hope too.. although I am pretty much just blowing hot air, cause I am not goping to buy one... Ladybug is staying with me for a while..

BTW my theory: AWD 240hp Compact was too close in performance and features and price to the Mazdaspeed6...

It kind of makes sense.. "You want an AWD turbo.. here a beautiful MS6.. FWD Turbo enough? Here a MS3? A Turbo RWD? we have a nice used 2005 MSMiata on the lot..."

I think basically a lot of people want something that will go up against the EVO and Subie for around $25k or less - just my opinion though.

if it the price of an type-s...
ill take the 6 then....

i think the price will be 23k or even less...

the most expensive 3 is arround 20k...

the most expensive mazda6 with the 2.3 engie is arround 26
the mazda speed 6 is arround 28...only 2k more...

so 2 or 3 k more for the 3 is more than reasonable...

If its FWD, I don't see much to sell me over a Civic SI, unless the interior really blows my mind. Maybe that's what they're banking on, trying to sell it against, say a VW GTI rather than a WRX, keep the upscale look and feel and give it some balls. Look and feel, I can take or leave, I'm probably not their target client.
