Australia gets a turbo Ford wagon

Australia gets a turbo Ford wagon...

We’re not saying that if Ford could produce a vehicle like the Territory Turbo here in the States then its problems would instantly evaporate, but there would certainly be a lot more Ford fans out there. This Freestyle-esque SUV has just been unveiled in Australia with a 328-hp turbocharged 4.0L V6 mated to a six-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is an option that would turn all four of this performance-oriented SUV's 18-inch wheels. And to top it all off the Territory Turbo can tow over 5,000 lbs. We think Ford Australia knows “The Way Forward” and it’ll get there pretty damn fast in this thing.

That thing looks like it's a Freestyle with a Subaru hood and Escape bumper and lights. I like it.

Those headlights actually look slightly Audi-ish (Find a pic of the S4, look at the lights, with the lower bumper looks sorta like an Escape's, the hood is reminiscent of the Saab 9-2X (again, find a pic of this car).

From the article:
Quote:
Another SUV making its debut at the show is the new Ford Escape. The Escape's exterior has been dramatically refined and features distinctive Ford DNA, giving the vehicle a very stylish urban SUV look.
And yeah... Ford needs to use its Australian branch like GM is... all the RWD goodness in the GTO and upcoming all new RWD Impala and Camaro are all designed and EVEN MADE down under...

I would wonder what platform this is using.. if it is the Falcon one we won't see it, but if it is a platform used in the US we might

I'm leaning toward Forester... hard to say though without context.

But doesn't Freestyle have at least (optional) 3rd row? This thing doesn't really look like it does, that I can tell...

Have been browsing Wikkipedia...

It is based off of the Falcon:
Ford Territory
2004 Ford Territory
2004 Ford Territory

The Ford Territory is a crossover SUV built by Ford Australia and based on the EA169 platform of the Ford Falcon, released in April 2004. Its code name inside Ford was E265. It won the prestigious 2004 Wheels Car of the Year award, the reviewers praising car-like handling and practicality as reasons for its win. Ford had reportedly spent A$500 million on developing the range over four years. It is built on the same production line as the Australian made Ford BA series Falcon. Ford's reputed design brief was for its engineers to develop 'a BMW X5 for Falcon money'. With the clever use of an extensible platform, parts-bin components and a competent though superceded all-wheel drive system, Ford came very close to achieving its goal.
