Return of the SVT?

Last weekend I went to the Houston Autoshow, and saw the Focus w/the Street Appearance Package. I thought it looked pretty good, but that might just be b/c I'm a ricer at heart. But it was obvious to me with that big rear spoiler that Ford was going after the likes of the Cobalt SS. What surprises me though is that there is no real high performance model for the Focus, or in other words an SVT model. I mean the last thing anyone wants to have is a Fast looking Focus, and then some ricor turbo eg hatch rolls up to him on the street, and the Focus gets his ass smoked.

I think Ford real needs to bring back the SVT Focus, and make it the baddest thing on the block. I'm talking something that can take down the SRTs, the Type-Ss, the WRXs, the SS, that whole sport compact crowd. It's time for Ford to break the mold of the Focus being a slow car, and make everyone say WOW with a focus that looks fast, and has the power to back it up. Time to gain some respect for the Focus. I don't see whats so hard about bringing a super fast version of the Focus stateside, I mean just look at the RS turbo in Europe, all the magazines rave about that car. And we all know the Duratec can handle the power. I just feel that Ford would be wise to bring back the SVT Focus, and call it the SVT as well, as that name is synonmous with Fast as hell. And if they do bring the SVT back, they need to go all out...Nothing less than 200hp and make it look aggresive and mean. And they need to publicize it alot, because I did not even know there was an SVT Focus before I got my Fofo, and I would have defintely gotten an SVT if I knew about it. Hopefully one day soon I will be watchin my American Idol, and I'll see a commercial starring the "All new SVT Focus." Does anybody else feel like I do?

well yeah.. that would be hot.. and there are rumors and wishes that Ford will use the new Mazda 2.3l TURBO used in the Mazdaspeed6 and put it in the Focus.

However I (notice the "I") Believe that ford has more important things to take car of than chasing the Cobalt SS or the extinct Neon SRT4. The market for those is ending, and most sports versions do not sell enough anyways.. .they are just image cars... got the sake of Bragging rights (the GTI/GLI might be the one exception to this since it is wuite close to the mainstream Golf/Jetta)..
Introducing more new models, replacinf the aged ones, and maintaing the model circulation should be Ford's first priority, not waisting money on some exotics models what will keep losing money,.

yes i agree , this has been spoken about before, what it really comes down to is the fact that ford is comiing out with about 3-5 new vehicles in the next2-3 years if not more , i work for ford the owner shows me these cars and when they will be inproduction on top of that remodeling the expedition and the 500 , they are bothered with fast cars....they have the mustang 300 hp and the shelby cobra that has 475hp as of now but by the time they are in productioon(this coming fall) they will have 500+

Fords money and time is with the Mustang. If anything is getting "sported" up, its the Mustang. They'll just keep losing money to Japan and Europe until they realize there is a market.

They know there is a market.. but there is no justification to put moeny in the current Focus...

1) it is getting r edesigned in 2 years
2) it is losing marketshare by the minute, because it is obsolete....

it would be throwing money out the window.. they have a lot of work ahead of them, and one of it is getting the Focus on track... and once that is done SVT/ an sports treatment would be justifiable.... for now they will do better without trying to put amy money to the current Focus.

No way will they ever do an svt focus again. IT's too old and Ford is changing right now. The reason they stopped making it is why they won't start making it again.

They actually stopped the SVT Focus because it would be the only car with a Zetec in the whole company.. it was not feasible from financial point of view.. I can see an SVT Focus or SVT Fiesta down the road... but not for a couple of years..
