Yet another new Ford vehicle for Europe that should be sold here

Yet another new Ford vehicle for Europe that should be sold here!

Ford should use this to replace the Freestar here in the US, but probably doesn't think Americans will go for it. I think a lot of Americans would definitely go for something like this, as long as Ford keeps the price right. With gas prices going up again, and Ford trying to figure out how to compete in North America (their home turf), They had better start realizing that a vehicle like this holds much more promise than another Explorer or Expedition remodel.

4Car has posted spy photos of the S-Max tooling around in Europe over a month before its official debut at the Geneva show. We have to say the S-Max is a looker with a deeply sloping front end that must offer a great view of the road, bulging fenders that impart a sense of handling prowess to this people mover, and a nicely sculpted greenhouse that appears to let in plenty of light.

That's going to give me nightmares...

I don't think it would ever have a chance here. That's a huge step backwards styling-wise for minivans.

Judging from the pics, I wouldn't conclude that this is a hybrid since it's sporting dual exhaust outlets. What kind of specs are on this thing?

It does have a radical shape that I like.

Don't like it at all. If Ford thought european cars would sell, and by sell I mean sell well, in the US market they would sell them here. They brought the focus over didn't they?

The S-MAX will be positioned in the Ford range below the full-sized Galaxy, but as a sporty, roomier alternative to the conventional Mondeo saloons and estates. A new-generation Galaxy, on the same underpinnings, will follow later in the year.

Built on the next-generation Mondeo platform - to be shared with the new Galaxy, new Land Rover Freelander and Volvo XC50 - the S-MAX is a seven-seater with flat-folding rear seats similar to those of the smaller Focus C-MAX. Ford intends it to be sporty, with many details from the SAV making it on to the finished car, including the vents at the rear of the front wheel arches.

Given the Freelander connection, it's likely that four-wheel drive versions of S-MAX will eventually be offered. Expected engines include the Volvo 2.3 and 2.4, some turbocharged, plus versions of the 2.0 petrol and TDCi diesel as in the latest Focus, and the 2.7 V6 diesel as in the Jaguar S-Type.

Looks very similar to the Mazda 5, I haven't heard much on sales of it, but I don't see many driving around where I live. I think Ford could do better bringing other stuff over first.

If you guys think it won't sell, that's ridiculous. People around the Northern Illinois area are driving those new Subaru crossover things. I'm not to fond of how the Suby looks with their new corporate image facelifts, but this thing has a chance. It's cool, it's different even though it does resemble a 4G Eclipse up front and a Subaru in the rear. That's my two cents.
