need opinions for new project car

ok, first thing i wanted was this supra a guy i know has, rebuilt engine, but it needs a new computer and tires and a whole new shifter assembly, its turbo, but he doesnt know if he really wants to sell it, or how much he will...i want a car under 1500 or so to be my project car.

so forget about the supra for now.

the guy does have these For Sale:

199something honda civic 2 door, needs a new clutch and a front bumper, 2500$

199something i think dodge neon, automatic, no problems just cosmetic, 1500$

and on my way home....i found this:
1992 pontiac firebird 5 speed v6 t-top, only problems is that the hood needs new hydraulic pump thingys, and hail damage....and 190,000 miles on it. but it runs perfect and the engine looks almost new(really old guy bought it used, wondering if the engine was replaced before he got it) he doesnt drive it hard or anything so ......

which one should i get? i really want that firebird ....but i dont know much about cars and i dont know how much longer it will last with those miles on it, if it even does...anyone care to help? lol i'm also a beginner at driving a standard...i'm learning though!

oh p.s. the reason i am getting a project car is because my mom complains every time i try to do something to my focus, my brakes are squeeling and i want to get some high perf. rotors and pads...and shes like you dont need to upgrade a new car blah blah blah...even though i'm 18 i live with her and i have to for now

You can pick up a used fox body (v-8) cheap...don't waste your time with a 6 cylinder 190k firechicken...

You can pick up something really fun for 1500-3000

out of the choices that you mentioned, i have ta say im diggin the firebird. @ 190k miles that engine should look like shit. If it looks newish, then it prlly was replaced. I would jump on it.

The civic is the best choice of those 3, but not the best of what you could get, definitely.

There are tons of 1K - 3K good project cars out there. Check out Grassroots Motorsport's (it's a magazine by the way) $2005 Challenge. No car could have more than the number of the year spend on it, including all parts and initial purchase. Tons of really fast cars packed with cheap ingenuity came out of it. (IE 11 second cars that ate up the AutoX course as well)

Take a look at a BMW E30 325I or E36 318I. Both very solid RWD platforms with tons of aftermarket.

^^Talk to some DSM guys and see what it would take to keep the car together for more than 4-5 of those 12 second runs. It'll be a hell of a lot more that $8K... Not to say that they can't do it, but you certainly can't do it for that little money.
