Ford's new approach to marketing/discounts?

Well Last week Ford announced cuts, new plans and ideas. Then we had leaked info on recyclable cars, new small cars, and a double hybrid..

Well the thing of immediate future that excited me the most was the promise to do away with discounts and promote again the image of Ford as a good brand, and focus on making Fords keep their vales better.

Well, I was watching quite a bit of TV and noticed that except for Fusion commericals, all Ford advertising is new.

The Bill Ford "innovation" clip was redone showing Edge, Fusion/Zephyr/Milan trio, as well as Reflex.

Explorer, Escape, Zephyr, Milan (etc) all got new clips. The new clips also have different feel to them - kind of mix of styles from different recent campaigns: Explorer uses DCX strategies boasting testosterone, Fusion clips are similar to Pontiac, Zephyr gets the standard Lexus/Acura/Caddilac treatment....

Lastly, After the new midsize trio was excluded from the year-end "Simple Pricing" it was the first to receive a "lease deal." Now, Excape and Explorer, do away with the discount axe and get nice lease deals...

Overall, there is a lot of emphasis on Ford as an american make coming up strong.

Do people think this is the "first bird making summer" (sorry if this is not verbatim per English proverb - I am foreign ) or just more of the same "bussines as usual" ....

I think it's a company in dire straights, grasping at whatever they have available to stay afloat. I certainly wish them the best of luck.
