acetone in the gas tank to increase fuel milage? linky

hope this isn't a repost, usually S2 find them before i do.

here's what i'm referring to:
how to boost your gas milage..... with acetone

so, who's going to be the one to try it? after reading the article, i know that i won't, for fear of messing up my fuel system. acetone can be a really mean substance, but if it helps significantly in gas milage, then who knows? a gallon of acetone should be good for at least 40 gallons of gas if you use the 3 ounce/10gal. method. i saw a bunch of the comments, they go both ways on the bottom, so i was wondering if anybody's heard of this before?

Definately not a good thing to do. Either it messes up the fuel system, or the "increase fuel mileage" you are getting is at the cost of the actual acetone prices.. don't even look into it.

i dont' think you'd get a 30% increase in gas milage just by acetone alone, would you? i mean, granted, i don't know crap about chemistry, and i'm not going to be the first person to try it, but there are a bunch of people that have posted on that board that HAVE tried it (or purport to. damn you internet) and have had some change, whether good or bad.

and to if the increase in mileage is due to the cost of the acetone prices, that'd not too realistic. according to my rudimentary math, a gallon (128 ounces) of acetone can be purchased for $25. if you use 3oz/10gal, in our fuel tanks (13.2 gal) you'd be using 3.96 ounces per tank. assuming a low percentage gain in fuel economy, like 10%, and assuming that our cars get 30mpg, we'd be looking at 33 mpg, or, over the course of a tank, like 435.6 mpg, compared to 396 mpg. for the cost of 3.96 ounces, you're getting a whole gallon (or so) of mileage increase, at only 77.3 cents per tank.

sounds like a terrible idea to do, but at the cost of it, damn, i might want to find a beater and try it out.
