I don't think it will take off...by then we are all on electric motors ... so no oil change

Quote:
The sealed Nexcel unit comes prefilled with the manufacturer’s specified oil and filter, and a chip on the reservoir verifies this with an electronic handshake with the engine control computer before the engine will restart. When engineers can be assured their engine will get proper lubrication, tolerances can be made tighter and vital components will require less over-engineering.
NO...HELL NO!!!

We don't need another "printer" cartridge lock-down... Better fill up with approved engine oil from our vendor list otherwise warranty voided or engine will not crank...

I hope it's one of those technologies that never really take off.

If we're honest, 70% of people modding a focus aren't doing anything that involves the engine anyway

Don't mention modding electric engines - got a fair amount of experience doing performance mods on DC motors.

Slot cars....

A/C ones used on electric cars usually have plenty of HP, limited more by battery capacity/range.

I freak out enough as it is that I'm going to accidentally fry the $700 dollar brain in the car doing something silly, let along the $70,000 battery pack.

But getting back to the OP, I kind of like the idea of a "hot swap" oil change but not if it's proprietary. And this idea that the lack of control over oil is somehow limiting designs is nonsense.

The nice things about electric motors is you don't need endless debates on intakes, exhausts or oil changes.

The swap tank is good for segregating decent oil from crap oil, but afaik it's more a savings for easier recycling than an inability to use the USEFUL portions for lube oil again.

Advantage to refinery/oil recycling/lube oil production.

If you have a real refinery to send the crap recycled items to, they can separate out all of it & run it through to produce anything desired that can be from the feed stocks.
